1. As the saying goes, the quarterback gets too much praise and too much criticism, and Devin Gardner falls somewhere in between. Gardner, working with his third offensive coordinator, has seven turnovers (six interceptions and a fumble) this season. Might there be a quarterback change as Big Ten opens play Saturday?

2. Don’t be so sure Shane Morris, the backup quarterback, is the answer, either. Morris actually looks like he moves better in the pocket than Gardner and can look more comfortable, but he has been turnover prone, as well. That might be from lack of playing time, of course.
--------

7. Michigan is still without a dynamic, well-rounded tailback. Derrick Green has been steady and accounted for 85 total yards against Utah, but the Wolverines still don’t have a back who can carry the team on his … back.

8. The offensive line took most of the heat last year. While some of that has dissipated, concerns remain. UM gave up four sacks against Utah and eight for the season. One sack last Saturday came from a complete breakdown at right tackle. Michigan is ranked 83rd of 125 teams in tackles for loss allowed.

10. Michigan’s main issues are on offense, but the defense, which has had to deal with shortened fields because of turnovers, has had its moments. The most glaring was the secondary in the Notre Dame, burned by quarterback Everett Golson. Utah, which entered the game third nationally in scoring, scored on a punt return and four field goals, but the 28-yard touchdown pass to open the second half culminated an 87-second drive and was deflating for the defense.

The Gophers have to beat these guys. They are struggling in turnovers and defensively are having problems too. Now I know the Gophers have some issues they need to have worked out but Michigan seems to have some big holes right now that the Gophers can take advantage of. One of them being Michigan does not have a tailback. It is huge that Minnesota has David Cobb. Minnesota has a big chance this weekend and Kill has to be prepared because this is a big opportunity to beat Michigan for the first time in about 9 years.

I'll be at the game, and hope I'm wrong, but our glaring hole seems to be bigger than theirs.

Minnesota will win IF they have no turnovers and few penalties.

Our Defense needs to keep forcing turnovers and we stay in this game.

If their secondary is really that questionable, run jet sweeps all day. Get our receivers to block out the secondary, let the O-line and TEs take care of the LBs and their front seven. Get the ball to Jones, Maye, or Edwards and get those guys in space. Gash them for 5-8 yards (or more) a sweep. Have Cobb waiting patiently in the backfield for the defense to spread out and then execute the rest of the run game.

Pass if we need to. I bet short passes will be there if we keep their D on their toes, and if Maxx is healthy. That might open a deep ball for Wolitarsky. At that point it would be all on whoever the QB is to deliver that pass - which is our obvious question mark on offense. Heck, maybe a flea flicker works if the offense has the right execution.

I am completely being a broken record about this, but execute our base offense and gete our playmakers either to the outside or one on one with their secondary, and I like our chances. Our D should be able to keep us in this game. The opportunity is there. This team needs to go get it.

They're likely saying the same thing on the other side. Crowd the line, take out Cobb and the read option, as the gophs have shown nothing else.

Saturday will determine whether we've held back the play book for the big ten season.

Getting more than 7 yards passing might also help.

Actually, I'd say the opposite. If the Gophers get 7 yards or less passing, I'll pretty much GUARANTEE Minnesota wins!

I do understand the point you're trying to make though.....
