2. TCU under 10.5 wins at minus-120

Everyone is too absorbed with what the Horned Frogs return on offense to notice what they’ve lost on defense. Six of their top seven tacklers depart, and with coach Gary Patterson openly maligning the unit, TCU is going to have to win a lot of shootouts. That won’t be easy in a quietly improved Big 12 Conference

The article is correct. We replace a lot of key players on defense and it could make or break the year. But traditionally Patterson has plugged holes on defense very well. For example in 2012 our first season in the Big 12. We had several injuries and suspensions. We had to start a walk on at LB with several Fresh in the secondary and statistically led the conf in defense when nobody picked us to. My prediction is it takes this team about 7 games to get rolling on defense. We should be able to win shootouts until that point. We play our true offensive juggernots late in the season.

Patterson has never had to play a freshman of any type at linebacker, this year he has three on his two deeps, including two true freshmen. I believe he also is counting a a true freshman at corner not exactly what you want early in the season.

You are right about the Freshman LB's. Thats the one thing that scares me. Can they be in the right spot play after play and tackle more mature players when it counts. It will be a wait and see for me. I think the secondary will be fine. With our 3 safety system, We have Derrik Kindred a very solid senior. Kenny Ikola was the #1 juCo Safety recruit in the counrty and should wind up in the NFL with Kindred. That leaves us one RS FR coner and safety. I predict kill has a plan to test them often. D line will be very stout and I hope they shed some pressure off the LB's, But we shall see
