Given the inclement weather forecast for Saturday’s game, there’s a strong possibility that turnovers will be a deciding factor.

What I concluded from this is that while both teams do a good job of limiting interceptions, Wisconsin has the most lost fumbles in the country. Unfortunately, the Gophers haven’t been very successful at forcing/recovering fumbles.

Minnesota:

Intercepted opponent passes: 14 (tied for 7th in the country)

Fumble recoveries: 3

Interceptions thrown: 6

Lost fumbles: 6

Turnover margin: +5 (Tied for 28th in the country)

Wisconsin:

Intercepted opponent passes: 10

Fumble recoveries: 8

Interceptions thrown: 4

Fumbles lost: 13 (Worst in the country)

Turnover margin: +1 (Tied for 56th in the country)

In just Big Ten games we are a +5 and they are a -1 with 10 lost fumbles in 8 games. 3 of those fumbles have come from Taylor in the past 2 games so it is clear that for as great as he is, he will put it on the turf.

Can we get a fumble please.

We are 126th in the nation in fumble recoveries.

Only one team has fewer (Kansas with 2).

I just hope the Gophers don't put too much effort into stripping it and miss tackles. Go for the tackle first and then the ball. If you tackle him hard he's going to eventually fumble.

The conference comparisons are pretty worthless.

They played OSU, Michigan, and Michigan State.

If you get the job done tackling, you won't need to rely on fumbles as much

Bit off thread but dealing with snow and wind:

Our special teams haven't exactly been stellar. Assuming a crummy weather day makes them an even bigger advantage for the F'n Badgers?

Forced 16. That’s only 19%. Eventually, fumble recoveries get to around 40%. Recover the next 5 and we’re there.

Maybe I'm supposed to be impressed that they played Michigan State, but, alas... I'm not impressed.

How about Penn State, though? They're pretty good, right? Beating them — now that impressed me.

Did Taylor fumble the ball away in last year's game? I remember Hornibrook fumbling at least once.

We beat them like a drum last season, but I don't remember Wisconsin fumbles being the main reason. To me, it seemed like we ran the ball really well, and passed efficiently enough to keep them on their heels. On defense, we contained Taylor and covered their receivers well.

Hornibrook fumbled twice, and lost one. He also threw 3 interceptions. +4 turnover margin will usually get it done. Our DBs made plays on those INTs.
