    Official March Madness Thread

I think everyone is burying the lead - there was a basketball player whose name was Max Hooper? Is this April 1?

All Things Grayson Grove Recruitment Thread (Class of 2024, Alexandria, MN; 6-8, 190lb; Gophers Commit!

Side topic - there seems to be some confusion about the singularity of MN HS basketball players' names - it's Grove not Groves, it's McAndrew, not McAndrews, and it was Winter not Winters. Carry on.

College Basketball Transfer Portal Thread - 2024

There was a player on the Cornell bench with a big brace on his leg. My guess is that was him.

College Basketball Transfer Portal Thread - 2024

They seem to lose guys with one year left - they lost headband guy (Mulcahy) to Washington last year, and a big dude to UCLA (Myles Johnson) a couple of years before. I was surprised to learn big Cliff had eligibility left, tbh. He'll make some money somewhere - a 5-man with his abilities...

College Basketball Transfer Portal Thread - 2024

I don't know if this was tongue-in-cheek or not, but Clary was dismissed from the team in mid-February link He's a good player, but from the tone of that article, I wonder who will want to take the gamble.

Wow: Badgers buy 3 billboards by Target Center to highlight Twin City Badgers

If the Gophers did want him out of high school, it'd be odd that he chose the Salukis instead. So let's assume MN did not pursue him at that time. When he went to the portal last year, he was highly sought after. Illinois had the right combo of an open spot in the rotation and, perhaps the big...

Wow: Badgers buy 3 billboards by Target Center to highlight Twin City Badgers

Both he and PU's Lance Jones were on the same team at Southern Illinois last year, I believe. There is a large list of overlooked players out of high school that go to a lower level school and blossom. A guy like Domask might've been buried on the bench at a Wisconsin or Marquette, and he'd...

    Do we recruit Wisconsin??

Baldwin went to UW-Milwaukee to play for his dad, so he didn't really leave the state. You could add Sam Hauser who played at UVa after Marquette, nd his brother is in the G-league and played for Sparty.

Doubt there will be another BTT hosted here

It's a pro sports town, and the administration's fault.

Doubt there will be another BTT hosted here

Bless your heart. The complaints (or maybe it’s more the lack of praise) I’ve heard are coming from the people running the tournament. It’s just … fine. And there’s novelty in moving the tournament to vacation spots during a lot of school’s spring break. There are a lot of B1G alumni in SoCal...

Doubt there will be another BTT hosted here

Just for the record, the comment on the physical shortcomings of Target Center from the B1G staffer had to do with the running of the event, not so much the fan experience - things like getting the bands, cheer squads, and different media folks and VIPs situated. I think the technology and the...

Doubt there will be another BTT hosted here

I think Mpls does better with national events. Maybe they won't get another Super Bowl, but I thought the men's final four in 2019 was good enough for the NCAA to come back (that was at US Bank). The women's final four was just ok - we will need to either replace or significantly upgrade Target...

Doubt there will be another BTT hosted here

I volunteered at both the women's and men's BTT this year (as well as the women's BTT last year). Let me start by saying that having it here while Caitlin Clark was in school basically saved this from being a complete embarrassment. I'm not exaggerating when I say there were 20x more Iowa fans...

    Ben Johnson is a Disaster

Situations are different everywhere. Most of those hundreds of coaches have a rotation hole to fill through graduation, portal loss, or early entry into the draft. That hole is the sales pitch. Mast goes to Nebraska to replace Derrick Walker. He doesn't go if he's still there.

    Ben Johnson is a Disaster

This isn't quite what I was saying. Most people were talking about adding a player as adding to the core that's already here. What I'm saying is that if they do add an upgrade (a very big if), the player losing their spot hits the portal. That's just the way it works now. Depth is very hard...

    Ben Johnson is a Disaster

I’ve stayed out of this thread for a couple months, mostly because I no longer believe “disaster” is the correct descriptor. While he hasn’t yet proven he can be a top coach, he met my criteria for retention. As for the roster and portal adds, if the rotation players all return (plus Asuma)...
