All Things 2025-26 Minnesota Wild Season Thread

At this point, there are very few players I’m going to get up in arms about trading in the effort of making this team a real Stanley Cup contender. Take the swing. Deal with the aftermath later. I’ve been a Minnesota sports fan my whole life and can count on one hand the number of times a team...

That’s hardly true. If they kept Marco Rossi, it’s highly likely they’d still need a center better than Marco Rossi AND they wouldn’t have Quinn Hughes.

Right, people are overreacting to one loss. It was lopsided but the Wild played this game on the second of a back to back after playing a fast, dynamic team with the best player in the world the night before. There’s two more matchups left this season.

Definitely agree there. An upgrade over Yurov/Hartman is needed. The swing needs to be taken even if they can’t afford a top guy. Brayden Schenn, ROR, Blake Coleman are all on The Athletic trade board would represent improvements up the middle but would not fit the 1C mold.

Does it need to be a 1C or just an option that gets them closer to two 2Cs pushes Hartman/Yurov back to the wing? Obviously a 1C is preferred but do they have enough left in the chamber to swing that.

This is the guy that vouched for the Purdue DL transfer that never played a snap due to a pre-existing injury.

These owners can not make up their minds. If they’re going to severely limit payroll, just tear it down. Trade your valuable assets and get some future value. This way they probably let their valuable assets walk in free agency for no return or trade them at a later date for significantly less...

I made that post as a joke for that exact reason but adding a bigger middle 6 center would make this team a really tough out in the playoffs.

I saw elsewhere that a Canucks’ writer at the athletic compared Hughes impact to that of a 1C.

If he doesn’t want to sign, it probably turns into a Mikko Rantanen and Carolina situation.

Right, Buium may be a star but Hughes IS a star. An extension will be huge and Guerin likely ends up with egg on his face if he doesn’t get one done.

They also only had more D scoring than 3 other teams in the league this year. While the need may have been greater for a top 6 forward, Hughes is more than just help on the D corps.

That is a really high number but he’s hit it multiple times. The point I was attempting to make is that he’s going to have a greater impact on the offense than number of goals he scores personally. But I acknowledge your point that it would be better to have another high end forward.

He’s got to get 60 assists somehow. Additionally, he likely reinvigorates a power play that’s struggled lately.

Fair points. However, Hughes doesn’t have to score the goals to have an impact on scoring. I agree that another Top 6 forward (probably preferably a center to push Yurov down the lineup) would be a great addition especially now that they’re obviously pushing their chips to the center of the...

Yeah, center is thin again but does it matter what position scores the points? Hughes will help put points on the board. A trade to bump Tarasenko down or out of the lineup would be great.
