***OFFICIAL IOWA AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

It’s painfully obvious: Iowa has better talent, better discipline, and better coaching. We have to recruit better and coach better.

***OFFICIAL IOWA AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

What happened to Mitchell? He can’t even find the rim on a three, and has become a turnover machine. 1-14 on threes as a team? That’s about like shooting blindfolded. It’s hard to believe this is happening … again.

    Darius Taylor!

Taylor is such a great example of why you can’t judge running backs on “measurables” alone. I’m guessing he lacked in one or more of those measurables when compared against the 4-star studs rated ahead of him who signed with the helmet schools. Maybe “too small”? Maybe “too slow”? To me...

    Brevyn Spann-Ford

A pet peeve of mine with coaches/fans/scouts/analysts is with the over-emphasis on “measurables” with quarterbacks and wide receivers. What I mean by are the following: Size, speed, strength, quickness, vertical jump, (arm/passing strength for QBs). There are two other things that matter...

Ky Thomas enters the transfer portal again

Not sure what games you watched this year, but Potts was Potts only excelled at stutter-steps (going nowhere) or losing yards running sideways. He had a rough year. Not sure what you were watching this past year.

What is wrong with this team?

Cooper shouldn’t be shooting at all? Did you look at the shooting stats for Garcia and Battle? Cooper had to shoot because those two couldn’t even find the rim.

Athan Kaliakmanis was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

Announcers said it wasn’t the crown of the helmet used as the tackler didn’t lower his head on the hit. However, in my mind it could have done similar damage given the blow was still to AK’s head.

Does Markus Allen mean a Gophers WR is going to the portal??

Well, that’s a bummer to hear. The over-evaluation of “measurables” with wideouts has always bugged me. I don’t care how fast he can run (Troy Williamson), how high he can jump, how much he can bench, even how well he can run routes etc., if he doesn’t flat-out catch the ball like he has glue...

Does Markus Allen mean a Gophers WR is going to the portal??

Great hands should be the #1 requirement. If someone has to go, I hope it’s MBS, as he did not display great hands this season.

What grade would you give Athan Kaliakmanis in his first Axe game?

What a crazy good game by AK. He looked awful at times last week, but completely changed my view of him with this game. I was mostly concerned about his accuracy after he missed open receivers badly last week on several occasions. Not today! He definitely deserves an A rating. Not only...

Wisconsin 4-star WR transfer Markus Allen visiting Gophers

Good point. He has been pretty consistent, and he’s good for yards-after-catch. Tough, though, that our only consistent receiver is 5’8” tall.

    Athan Kaliakmanis struggles?

Thank you. I’ve come down off the ledge. I really hope it was early-play jitters and that he will settle down and at least make the “easy” throws he missed in that game.

    Athan Kaliakmanis struggles?

AK looked absolutely awful passing in the Northwestern game. Even the announcers seemed surprised at how badly he was missing open receivers and they commented on that more than once. Those of you who didn’t notice this must have been fixated on your bag of popcorn and can of beer because it...

Wisconsin 4-star WR transfer Markus Allen visiting Gophers

Can this guy catch a pass? If he can, he’s got a leg up on our current stable of fumbling and bumbling receivers. Sorry I’m being so negative, but CAB was really our only legitimate BIG10 receiver. That was a HUGE loss. Puzzling to me how Fleck hasn’t been able to recruit better in this...

Kristen Hoskins - a Gopher recruiting hidden gem

Ky Thomas is a lot of good things, but really fast is not one of them. You must not have watched him get caught from behind during the bowl game when he had a lot of daylight to the end zone. I’d be surprised if Thomas com could run a 4.5 or 4.6. 40.

    This Gopher team

One thing this is telling me is that the “second tier” Minnesota high school recruits are pretty good too. If you miss out on the Suggs and Hurts and Jones, you can win with the next bunch. I’m not saying Pitino completely ignored them, but I think Ben knows there are a lot of good options...
