All Things Gophers Basketball Class of 2022 Recruiting Thread

Yes...animated, intimidating refs, loud, etc. as a head coach. He was well known for that at DeLaSalle. As an assistant at the college level, he has to take a different role and we won't see that in him as assistants can't behave that way and even if he was a head coach, he would not be able...

Have you ever seen Thorson coach? If so, I doubt you would include calm assertive behavior with him.

Minnesota Prep is a bit of an odd program, and they bring kids in from all over to play. Not sure where DJ is from originally but perhaps he has connections to that region.

According to multiple reports; Marcus Carr is expected to withdraw his name from the NBA and return to school next season.

Lowe shot under 30% from 3 last year. Battle was at 36%, and Willis was at 40%. All of those stats were against competition that is below Big 10 level. Will be interesting to see what they can do against this schedule.

    Jericho Sims

True. Don't know that it means he uses them well in college though. You would think that with as much talent as he had, those guys would have been more productive. Sims averaged a little over 9 ppg last year, Hayes right at 10 his last year and I believe Bamba and Allen were right around 13...

Great point....also got me to thinking that Shaka Smart may not know how to use big guys. Quite possibly why Theo John and Dawson Garcia are moving on from Marquette.

Agreed, but for 2021, we are running out of time.

Here are five story lines for Johnson's Gophers going into summer practice:

And why did he move to Ohio. I did not see that either.

I agree about the challenge of getting players to stay here. One other thing that has not made sense to me....thinking that one Minnesota kid committing will lead to other Minnesota kids committing. Maybe, if they know the other player or played AAU with them (that is why it is so important to...

Washington Post Column: In recovering Minnesota, a new men’s basketball coach offers a vision of change

“The timing was right for me to get this job, in a lot of ways. And I get that. Another time, I might not be sitting here talking to you.” Hmmm....I certainly don't read it that way. I read it as saying what I think we all acknowledge at least to some degree...by Ben saying it that way, I...

Just curious about this observation....Michigan State, Marquette, and Minnesota. You see that list and come to the conclusion that diversity of student population is important. Are these three schools known to be more diverse than others? I would have not come to that conclusion but I hadn't...

Official roster updated: we have 8 players

I understand what you are saying. Part of that is recruiting though. Unless he wanted all of these players to leave, or they were determined to leave the U with 100% certainty, I am sure he tried to sell them on his vision, coaching staff, etc. and they rejected the message. I assume he did...

Official roster updated: we have 8 players

A few things of note... 1. If Andre Hollins can practice with the team, that will be a big bonus 2. I wonder if Jarvis was ever cleared to workout? If so, we would be a great practice addition as well. 3. I have never seen a top 125 player like Treyton average so few points per game as a...

Yes, I agree. That is a big part of why they get the jobs they get, even with a lack of college coaching experience. I am sure he is prepared as much as he can be and pays attention to details. The lack of experience won't mean that he can't do those things, but if you listened to interviews...

I understand what you are saying, I just disagree. I would not have hired Ben for this position, period as I feel he is over his head to be starting at a division 1 level for his first head coaching job. Hope I am proved wrong though. Over time, if Saunders reinvents himself, he potentially...

All Things Tre Holloman Recruitment Thread (Class of 2022)

Really? Working with players for as long as he has been a head coach in the NBA does not give him the credibility to tell a recruit that he knows what it takes to get to the league? But, Ben, a guy who has neither coached nor played in the NBA, nor has anyone on staff who has coached nor...

This is the issue that our coach will be facing though...new staff at Indiana, but the head coach has been in the NBA for years, and will sell the connections he has, and that he knows what it takes to get players to the league. Ben has to find a way to compete with situations like this when he...
