Not many remember Gary Russell, since he kind-of got lost in the MBIII / Maroney years... but in 2005 (which was really his only year with the Gophers because he couldn't be bothered to go to class) he was the other half of Glen's pair of 1000-yd rushers (with Maroney.) He rushed for 1130 yards...

This is exactly why I've never complained about the players Fleck recruited, or recruitment rankings in general. PJ brings in the kind of players we can all be proud of, and I wouldn't have it any other way...

Since this has devolved into naming famous Minnesotans... they missed Tay Zonday, whose "Chocolate Rain" was one of the first Youtube viral videos. Born in Minneapolis, he was in the University of Minnesota's American Studies Ph.D. program when he had this massive hit.

Whiffing on Herb Brooks was a travesty since he's arguably the most famous former University of Minnesota coach... I mean, he was portrayed in a major motion picture by Kurt Russell! When they (obviously) get around to making a movie about PJ Fleck, who plays him? Ric Flair? He and his favorite...

I've gotta admit, I've been paying attention to the University of St. Thomas quite a bit since they left DIII... I think MN has needed D1-AA football for many years... and when their probationary period is over, St. Thomas just might be the team we've needed. Whatever happens, it'll be interesting.

For sure... but is that due to St. Thomas, knowing that they're on probation and prohibited from post-season playoffs( for 2 more years), just keeping things on the back burner, so to speak? They don't have to make any decisions for a couple of years, at least.

Of course... It's got nothing to do with the quality of football that the Pioneer League plays, though... Rather, are the Tommies going to be willing to settle for that brand of football? Are the rest of the Pioneer schools going to put up with St. Thomas... or will they ask the Tommies to move...
