    Post Portal 2025-26 Rankings

I believe Coach P has one eye on the past, learning from the past. One eye on the present bringing what has been learned from the past and applying. She uses her 'third eye' to look to the future, using the past & present to determine what is needed to support that vision.

I agree with your comments. I remember having a Lab supervisor who was nearing retirement... everybody was sweating bullets what would happen when he did. Well the final Friday came and he was gone. On Monday I walked by his desk and noticed a glass of water and a note. The note said to 'stick...

Both Whalen and McCarville have the credentials and I see those credentials hanging in Williams Arena at every game I attend. They were great individually and as a pair. As a pair, they have no equals to date... IMO.

    Post Portal 2025-26 Rankings

Final polls from AP/Coaches had us at 15/18. I think we are better now. Your idea of averaging the two recent poll, at a 14, is reasonable. I might lean a little more North, considering the addition of Merkle, say 11 or 12.

If my memory is correct, she didn't start playing BB until high school. She played other sports... felt BB was fastest way to scholarship. Fun to watch, but very raw.

    Post Portal 2025-26 Rankings

For the 2025-2026 season, the Gophers averaged 74.8 points/game in Conference play, according to Gopher Stats. The bench contributed 11-12 points. Next season, IMO, they can score in the low to mid 80's in Conference play. This would place them among the elite. Go Gophers!!!

For sure her name be there next year as will others returning from injury; for example, Natalie Potts from Nebraska. I was only working from the link provided by BigTenGuy.

HOOPLA Ranking Of Top 40 BIG Players

I did somewhat of a tally. I counted 23 returning players, 3 still in portal, 4 just missed. I gave 1/2 point to a player that almost made it; for example, Braun. OSU: 2 1/2 Mich: 3 1/2 Maryland: 1 Iowa: 2 Neb: 2 USC: 1 Illinois: 3 Wash: 2 MSU: 1 Minnesota: 3 1/2 (counted Merkle) Ore: 2 Ind: 1...

If I read correctly, from early/mid/final McKinney: 34/36/22 Grace: 25/22/17 Merkle: 33/21/33 Braun: NR/NR/close I'll take it... Steady progression from McKinney and Grace Consistency from Merkle Honorable mention to Braun

    What's Next 26-27 Roster

Can't make a good argument against your post. Facts are facts, but sometime there is more underneath. I remember talking to a co-worker (who fancied himself quite a bb player) in 2004 about good Whalen played... his comment was he wished he could play her 1:1. My comment back was it's not...

    Merkle is a blue chip

I know this thread is about Merkle being a 'blue chip' player... but, considering the number of girls playing HS bb and the few that receive scholarship offers for college ball... they are all 'blue chip'... IMO. Sometimes I wish some on the forum would give all the portal grabs a chance to...

    What's Next 26-27 Roster

Agree with your comments regarding McCarville... her stats and play during the tournament was wonderful. It was a joy to watch each and every game in person. I will make my assessment about McCarville over Merkle any day after the season.
