    Week One: Offensive Line

I was impressed by our last possession. The line finally imposed its will on a tired and perhaps discouraged run defense. I would have hated to see a punt followed by a "consolation touchdown".

Post Game Thread: Gophers 1-0 After 23-10 Win Over Buffalo

I admire your confidence! I come from a long line of dark-side Scandinavians with 65+ years of Gopher let-downs to fortify their influence.

Post Game Thread: Gophers 1-0 After 23-10 Win Over Buffalo

Your confidence is admirable. Let's hope these Gophers you more reasons to feel that way.

What grade sound you give Drake Lindsey for his first career start?

Very surprised and pleased that PJ did not baby him and restrict him to 20-25 passes. Against teams from lesser conferences, he usually leans heavily on the run game and we read lots of complaints about "RUTM". His confidence in the kid was encouraging.

Post Game Thread: Gophers 1-0 After 23-10 Win Over Buffalo

Up just 16-10 early in the 4th quarter, this game looked like it could easily be another one of losses where the Gophers dominate statistically but find a way to lose. Maybe I am a lot older than you and have seen more haunting losses.

Paul Finebaum: What's a loss from your favorite sports team you still can't get over?

I have replayed that last 2 minutes many times. First of all, I wanted Russell in the game to get those tough yards and not Maroney. With 4th and one, it was clear to me that Mason had to go for it. The defense was gassed and at least a tying field goal by the Badgers seemed imminent. Tough spot...

Which Gophers did you miss on badly - you thought XYZ Gopher would be much better or much worse?

Tremendous athlete. Bleed and I watched him in person as a senior in San Diego and he looked like a can't miss prospect. Turns out he was a much better athlete than a basketball player. He was also a stud running back in high school. I think his true calling would have been as a cornerback.

    Goldy On Jeopardy!

I think I read somewhere that the Wisconsin people finally found The Slab of Bacon buried in some storeroom in Camp Randall. Does anyone have the details? And then what did they do with it?

    Bobby Durkin Commits

Or the old Irish ballad called "Good-Bye, Mrs. Durkin". The Pogues version is quite good.

    Goldy On Jeopardy!

First Bucky and then Goldy! If you missed it, the category was "Mascots". A photo identifying Bucky Badger appeared with his name given and then Goldy's picture was shown and the contestant had to identify him as a "Gopher". He did so!

    Dan Monson era

When Monson was hired, we thought he was the guy who was responsible for the sudden rise of the Gonzaga program. Maybe the Gophers should have looked into the role of that Mark Few played.

    Dan Monson era

About that horrific Illinois meltdown. I think Kevin Burleson got most of the blame against that press, deserved or not. If he is recalled at all over 20+ years, that day may be what most of us remember.

Favorite Friday = Who is Your favorite Gophers running back?

Yup- And on that steamy, sticky, Miami night the holes were still there for him in the 4th quarter but he was just too tired to hit them! Blowing a 24-0 lead to a team led by some freshman quarterback named Phillip Rivers was painful. When the Gophers gave up a touchdown on a blocked punt and a...

Favorite Friday = Who is Your favorite Gophers running back?

Yes! He abused a Purdue db once 10 yards downfield and then did it again when the same kid got up and tried to tackle him at the goal line. Just a remarkable, Marshawn Lynch kind of run.

Favorite Friday = Who is Your favorite Gophers running back?

And Jackson is the only Gopher with a pair of 200-yard games in the same season... and he did it in consecutive games! 238 yards vs. Northwestern (while Tapeh ran for 176) and then 239 the next week at Michigan State.

10 best coaches in Big Ten men's basketball history

Loved watching Purdue vs. Illinois back when Keady and Henson would model their amazing hair-dos!

Former Gophers football running back John Wintermute dies at age 78

I can still see Walter Bowser putting a big lick on a Trojan at midfield to help Wintermute along the way. Murray was hardly known for creativity, which made this play even more remarkable.

Shama: Anonymous analysis said the offensive play-calling was “creative and fun,” while speculating the Gophers used more trick plays last night.

I had the feeling they reprised that tight end lob from late in the Auburn game because Brosmer did not want his last collegiate pass to have been that interception! Mission accomplished.
