Cam Christie is entering the Transfer Portal

I doubt it. Caitlin Clark stayed home and was the #1 overall pick by a landslide. Draft scouts could care less about where they play. Anthony Edwards was #1 at Georgia and Cade Cunningham was #1 at OKState which aren't blue bloods. If you can play you can play.

    Any chance of a return?

This. Edey wasn't able to make NIL in the states and expressed so during the final four press conferences.

    Any chance of a return?

Sadly Payne is significantly better than Carrington and Ben's job is to win so I don't think they'd be handled the same.

It's more in place that it allows the student athlete to still go to college under scholarship and also allows the football team to open up another scholarship.

Way-too-early ranking of Big Ten receiving corps ahead of the 2024 season (14. Minnesota)

Also Redding doesn't have a single catch in his career and has really only been a return man. Zero shot he sees signficant reps at WR.

I believe once you medically retire you're not allowed to play at the school as you sign a different type of athletic scholarship, but that doesn't prevent you from being able to transfer and being able to play if you get cleared at a different school. Same situation that happened to St-Juste.

Cam Christie declares for NBA (while maintaining college eligibility)

Love it! Get some feedback from the NBA and see where you're at, and then come back for your sophomore season to become a top 15 pick!

    Payne, Carrington, Ola-Joseph and Ihnen...

This. I'm 100% for a scholarship for Fox and love what he does for the team, but there's no reason to keep Ihnen and would be a silly reason to try and keep him around.

    Payne, Carrington, Ola-Joseph and Ihnen...

Love Fox and the energy he brings but 2 scholarships for an off the bench role player is not worth it.

U twitter: Mike Mitchell Jr. is returning for his senior season at Minnesota! 〽️

It looks like they all may be giving each other the time to announce/have their moment considering the way they've been rolled out

Wow: Men's Basketball is 13th Most Popular Gophers Team for NIL Contracts at the U

I also think there is some ownership on players to make themselves marketable in order to receive NIL funds. Companies want charismatic, successful, and marketable people if they're going to represent their brand.

    Ben Johnson is a Disaster

    Can you elaborate?
  13. D

Take a deep breath, it’ll be okay.

On the bright side...with Carrington and Ihnen out our 3 point shooting % will go up and our FT percentage will go up with Payne leaving!

    Ben Johnson is a Disaster

NIL is now a part of Ben's job though, and this is the THIRD max transfer exodus we've seen in his tenure as our HC. He was hired to come in and recruit MN players, which he has done, but there have been FIVE local guys who have transferred in the last year and that cannot be ignored. He's...

    NIL World

I understand the sentiment but realistically only Payne is leaving for an NIL payday. No disrespect to JOJ and Carrington but no one is rolling out the brinks truck to get them to their (Likely mid-major) schools. Players leaving starts and ends with coaching and it is not a part of their job to...

    Braeden Carrington in the Portal

Honestly this one isn't surprising. Carrington is not enough of an offensive asset to play at the Big Ten level. By the end of the season teams were not even guarding him on the offensive end and he still couldn't produce. I have no ill wishes against him though as a local kid who stayed home...

    Ben Johnson is a Disaster

We can't control NIL but if Ben truly is building something it wouldn't be as big of a factor. You don't see many other guys from Big Ten schools transferring just for NIL reasons. Especially not local kids. This is the second straight year one of our best players (whose from MN) is leaving...
