Gophers Fleck on closing the gap against top teams: "...Just because you want that doesn't mean that's going to happen."

That is a fair point, but I was referring Iowa against the known NIL powers like OSU, Texas Tech, and now even Indiana, etc. Even before NIL and in their "down" years they have at least been competitive towards the top Big 10 teams.

    It's Officially Flipping Season

https://www.on3.com/rivals/news/prediction-minnesota-to-flip-2026-qb/ Looks like we're supposed to flip a QB and add another to the class? I don't pay for on3 but I'd assume it's the VT Commit Cole Bergeron?

Gophers Fleck on closing the gap against top teams: "...Just because you want that doesn't mean that's going to happen."

I totally hear you and agree. Iowa's level of success is absolutely something I would like to see here and should be what PJ strives for. There is no reason that he can't. He doesn't need to go the CFB every year, but it would be nice to have a shot once every blue moon to actually make it. We...

Gophers Fleck on closing the gap against top teams: "...Just because you want that doesn't mean that's going to happen."

Iowa crushed us (again), lost by 5 to #2 Indiana, and Oregon needed a last second FG to beat them. My point is they at least consistently compete against the top teams and have a chance. We consistently get CRUSHED in those games.

Gophers Fleck on closing the gap against top teams: "...Just because you want that doesn't mean that's going to happen."

Agreed. And that is why I won't be told it's just a money problem as to why the Gophers don't take the next step up. Fleck raised the floor for Gopher football and I am grateful for that but his on the field coaching has consistently held us back.

Gophers Fleck on closing the gap against top teams: "...Just because you want that doesn't mean that's going to happen."

I would agree with this if we didn't see Iowa and other teams with far less money still compete every year and find ways to win without the extra money. It all comes down to coaching and PJ and company consistently get out-coached against these big schools.

    DB’s

Minus him having a couple receptions he really hasn't made an impact on offense or special teams either. I wouldn't hate removing him as PR or KR to free him up to focus solely on safety.

If the blue bloods left for a "super league", who would be hurt more, them or the also-rans like us?

It seems only logical to me that they cheer for the school they went to over the place that they live...

2025 Minnesota High School Football Thread

Agreed. Old Southwest conference schools were all essentially in 2A besides Marshall and Worthington. Playing Marshall was always a good litmus test for the smaller schools!

They need to bring back the old Southwestern conference and we would have had a Jackson County Central vs. Marshall match up!

4 Star OT Aaron Thomas Flips from tOSU to Minnesota!!!

Looks like his dad played OL and started for the National Champion 1999 Florida State football team. He also had a short stint as a practice squad player in the NFL. https://www.profootballarchives.com/players/t/thom06790.html

6-3 including 4-2 in B1G! I got a kick out of Ryan Burns' "Go find joy" rant!

I think PJ is a great head coach when it comes to recruiting, developing, etc., but his in game decisions and inability to level up as a play caller and with in game decisions is what keeps us from ascending. We got out-coached against Purdue and MSU but luckily have better players who were able...

In hindsight, this outcome is not that surprising. This is Mark Gronowski's sixth year as a starting college QB.

Yeah he didn't play because he never won the job. It may have been more fun but he never did anything to prove that he was better than Leidner while he was here. There's a reason he transferred to an FCS school and not an FBS school. Sure Streveler got an NFL paycheck after playing well in the...

Not sure what you're alluding to here, but I am simply saying both tore it up as duel-threat QB's at the FCS level and have shown that it doesn't necessarily translate to the FBS level. Streveler couldn't start over Leidner at MN and Gronowski has struggled after making the jump up.

Post Game Thread: Hawkeyes Humiliate Gophers

1000000000%. This is what it takes the Gophers to the next level. Fleck has never grown in this area and has always been our downfall. You Gotta play to win the game from the jump and not just hope the other team messes up more than you do. When you play big games, you go for it on 4th and 1...

    Burrito Loco still open?

I tried to go there this weekend and it was boarded up. To make matters worse even Tony's wasn't open post-game to grab a bite :/

DL was rough on Saturday. WIth Anthony SMith getting double teams someone else needs to step up.
