What Grade Do You Give the 26-27 Roster?

How much better? Knowing what I know about the returnees and not knowing much at all about the newcomers (because, frankly, there isn't much out there to know), I wouldn't be surprised by 17-14 or 18-13 but I'd be surprised by 21-10.

What Grade Do You Give the 26-27 Roster?

That's not true. He did a little better than I thought he might but I figured he would be a starter and be able to score. I felt the same way as 60s Guy when he said "He'd done it" before. I believe that if one is a proven collegiate scorer, he has a pretty fair potential of adjusting and...

The Gophers haven't been ranked in the AP since 2022?!

I think 4-0 might do it because that would include a win over MS St. and Washington on the road. Washington is getting some preseason Top 25 votes. Michigan (game 5) is squarely within the preseason top 25 right now so a loss to them at home may or may not drop us from the rankings if we are...

Big Ten Coaches talk anonymously about other teams.

Those equal the same number of wins and the same winning percentage over three years. That wasn't the case in the comparison between Fleck and Fitzgerald. Fleck clearly has had a greater overall winning percentage at Minnesota than Fitzgerald had at Northwestern.

Big Ten Coaches talk anonymously about other teams.

Well, you should know a thing or two about being dumb.

Big Ten Coaches talk anonymously about other teams.

Nonsense. Judging a coach only by his best seasons is foolish. If a student gets two A grades, two C grades, and a D grade, he is not an A student. The only accurate way to fully evaluate a coach is on the overall record. A losing season is as depressing as a superior season is exhilarating.

Big Ten Coaches talk anonymously about other teams.

Not every traditional Big Ten team. I found one right away that didn't. Pat Fitzgerald was Northwestern most successful coach of the last 50 years. He had a 52.1% winning percentage at Northwestern. Fleck has had a 60% winning percentage at Minnesota.

The Gophers haven't been ranked in the AP since 2022?!

Yes, they were ranked for one week in 2022. It came after going 4-0 in the first four games with a 49-7 victory over Colorado in game 3 and a 34-7 victory over Michigan State in game 4. They lost to Purdue 10-20 in game 5 and were not ranked again that season.

How do Iowa, Wisconsin and Nebraska do this year?

They certainly do not have a tougher schedule in 2026 than they had in 2025. Sagarin rated last year's schedule as the toughest in the nation.

How do Iowa, Wisconsin and Nebraska do this year?

Because of their durable consistency, it's tough to bet against Iowa despite their significant personnel losses after last season. Their worst records of the last 10 years are two 7-5 regular seasons. I think they have enough unknowns and a reasonably tough conference schedule to end that way...

    CBS 2027 Draft Prediction

At first I thought BroncoRedux made that up but it's actually in the posted article. That seems like quite a leap at this point but maybe the author had some kind of unique vision.

    Current Roster, Positions, Depth

I've suspected that the post on this board where Niko is calling for reform, maybe a collective bargaining agreement, is an oblique way of admitting that. We may have more money to pay players than we've ever had before but so do all of our competitors and we likely have lower tier money when...

ESPN: Ranking the offseason for every Power 4 college football team (#9 in BT: Minnesota)

I'm going to take a "wait-and-see" approach on that. I like the defensive potential. They were decent last season although not as good as the best Fleck defensive teams (21, 22, 24). They just needed to get a little better and maybe they've done that. The offense on the other hand was...

Thank you! I had that exact question.

    Thoughts on 2026?

I think 9 regular season wins are possible but I also think high conference win totals are harder to come by than they were when we played 6 games each season against Big Ten West teams. The team also needs to improve significantly from last season to have that kind of year. For an 8-win team...

Well, I don't like you if that clarifies things. Perhaps you should not waste time with a hostile audience when considering future comments.

    Thoughts on 2026?

The discussion I responded to was about Nebraska having a significantly smaller number of freshmen recruits than most other conference teams. I was simply adding a reason about why that might have occurred. My remark wasn't a prediction about the success of Nebraska's 2026 team.

The Wolverines' article took the info from ESPN. I was talking about Big Ten only.

    Thoughts on 2026?

According to Wolverines Wire, Nebraska also was ranked #2 in the conference in returning production. Gophers were ranked #3. Iowa was ranked last (maybe we have a chance this year).
