I strongly support the college sports of track and field, cross country, gymnastics, and women’s soccer… but I bet not 0.05 percent of the Minnesota population can name a single student athlete on any of those teams.

The Gopher athletic program writ large is not in a good spot right now. Only football seems to be carrying its weight in my opinion. Many other Gopher sports teams appear to have dropped off quite a bit from 5-10 years ago; especially on the women’s side.

My guess is the number count of posts on this message board are going to keep going even further down… precipitously.

One area where Preacher Roe and I will always disagree is in our attitudes towards Coach Allister. I can’t stand even hearing that name anymore. She is so long gone. There was zero chance for her to stay here the nanosecond they (Stanford University!… not a bad final destination after all!)...

This really makes one wonder if Jess Oakland could see what was coming and just figured she did not have to live this way… being a Big Ten Player of the Year and all (she had an easy out).

That was the 2017 season, so she would have graduated high school in 2016.

Looks like we need her.

The single biggest issue with our roster in 2024 was the lack of a strikeout pitcher - we just did not have a healthy pitcher who could regularly make opposing batters swing and miss. I am not saying we will have one this year, but this Hosick game versus Miami (Ohio) is at least encouraging.

Reminder : The Gophers finished with an RPI ranking of 76 last year (and that is with Jess Oakland, the best player in the Big Ten, on our team). Cal, Miami of OH, and Utah all had much better RPI’s last year. We need significant improvement from last year to hang with these caliber of teams.
