Athan splits against top ten defenses versus all other defenses

The problem is, all those were conference opponents who are not going away.

Fleck needs to examine every facet of this program

Fleck was able to succeed by “selling” kids on staying for 5th, 6th years as well as kids like AWjr who were ready to bolt after the scandal. But this was essentially before NIL. AWjr probably would’ve been gone if NIL was a thing.

STATE OF THE PROGRAM: Where is Gophers football right now?

I would say the Gophers’ situation was different since they had no stadium on campus, so building the Bank likely had more impact than another school just rebuilding their existing stadium.

wisconsin football upperclassmen discuss Minnesota rivalry, preparation for Gophers

The first and second year Wis players haven’t seen a victory. Wisconsin fans have not seen a victory in Camp Randall since, what, 2016 since no fans were there in 2020?

Evanston approves Northwestern's new $800M stadium

Adjusted for inflation but not adjusted for post COVID construction price increases above and beyond inflation, labor (Chicago unions!) demolition of an entire existing stadium which was not needed for TCF. I think TCF was built largely on the old commuter lots I used to use when I took summer...

Evanston approves Northwestern's new $800M stadium

Note that part of the campus is “lakefill” expanded a few decades ago. There is not enough room on campus, and filling in more of the lake would probably cause an environmental impact quagmire that makes the neighborhood NIMBY protests pale in comparison.

Evanston approves Northwestern's new $800M stadium

There is no renovating the hulk that is Ryan Field. Have you seen the concourses? I don’t think there is any way that structure could be modernized in a way that improves accessibility and amenities to today’s standards. I think $800MM is an insane amount of money but you’re taking Chicago and...

Evanston approves Northwestern's new $800M stadium

Yes, it does look like an epic design but on a small scale. Built to keep outside fan bases from being the majority. May be the smallest P5 stadium when it’s said and done, but similar to Wake, Vandy, Cincy. They may be able to make money from smaller outside sporting events like tournaments...

    Wisconsin Line

I think home field wins this one since both teams are struggling so much. Teams that travel also take less players so their extensive injuries leave no margin for more. Did I see the schedule correctly that the game is in Minneapolis for a second straight year next year? What a break.

Former Gopher coach Jerry Kill becomes first NMSU coach to defeat a SEC opponent.

It’s an amazing concept that coaching can dramatically improve a team’s performance year over year and throughout the course of the season. What would be the outcome if the Gophers played NMSU this week? If the Gophers played at Auburn this week?

“On the road” with about 20,000 Northwestern fans, max, is not really that scary. Most of Purdue’s success against the Gophers was on the ground anyway, so having a running QB unexpectedly in for Purdue probably helped them against Northwestern, aside from the end of the game when they had to...

    All ROWds lead to Wisconsin

The only West team that has undershot preseason expectations more than the Gophers, is the Badgers. They are truly lost so it should not be a tough W.

    Jerry Kill

And how many times did fleck beat Iowa his first 5 years - pretty circular reasoning, no? Unless you’re saying beating Wisconsin is the main bar. However, the Wisconsin bar has been lowered the last couple years. How many times would a Kill team have beaten the 2017-2022 Badgers, probably a...

2023-2024 College Football Coaches Hired/Fired Thread

Not that long ago that Nebraska would be the job a coach would leave A&M for, not the other way ‘round.

Pretty sure Jer beat Iowa twice in 5 years, more than Fleck’s once in 7 years.

    Jim Harbaugh Accepts His Suspension

If Michigan coaches cheated by using stolen signal information during games, then the players benefited and may not be where they are today without the cheating. There must be enough incriminating info for the suspension now. Otherwise it would also look bad for the league if they did nothing...

    Iowa Losing Major Contributor

Little reason to skip a bowl game if you’re a punter. I thought the main reason to skip bowl games was to avoid injury which seems much less likely for a punter in a likely warm weather bowl game. He just may have to tell them he’s not going to be a hero and try to tackle anyone on a return!

Coach Knowles on the challenge that Minnesota presents: "They're the best 4th down conversion team in the country."

So, based on these stats, both teams should be going for it on every 4th down like that high school team in Texas, and then it may be a dogfight.

Souhan: Fleck has made this program all about him. His players have been asked to stand when he enters a room and are left to parrot his cliches

Whoa, I’d say it is wishful thinking and maybe a bit narcissistic to think that Wisconsin’s and Iowa’s coaching moves were primarily because of Fleck. They were both declining and not seeing themselves competitive in the expanding Big Ten. While it is nice to associate Fleck finally beating...

Jim Harbaugh calls Michigan "America's Team"

In the Big Ten, only Michigan could be mired in an obvious systematic cheating investigation and be portrayed as the overcomer, the persecuted, the world against them. Sherron Moore’s rant was kind of sickening to me. Maybe I’m being too hard on him as it’s personal, but it’s so sick for the...
