Va Tech fires DC, OL coach, strength coach

Sounds like it’s not even a close comparison though based on sheer numbers of 2 deep players as well as multiple coaches being fired.

Hay is not in the barn….

I see your point but also felt a little inkling of uncertainty when at the same time they post asking fans to contribute to their NIL. Maybe it’s just the foreignness of the new approach to CFB but it does hint at some connection of their staying to how much money is raised. If there isn’t a big...

Bill Belichick to become the UNC football head coach

I think he just wants the faculty and staff tuition benefit for his girlfriend. Apologies if this joke has already been played on this thread, I didn’t read it through.

Gopher's Defense end Regular Season ranked 8th in the Nation (5th in B1G) for Total Defense

Respectfully, why is that the question necessarily? Wouldn’t it be just as valid to ask, how would the SEC offenses rank if they played in the Big Ten, who has five out of the top 8 defenses in the country? Of course, there is no end to the SEC circular reasoning.

Alabama AD to reevaluate nonconference slate after CFP picks

Shouldn’t this be an argument for Bama to schedule stronger OOC opponents? If they’re going to pick up SEC losses then to make an argument for the playoff they need a stronger SOS and more opportunities for quality wins. Unfortunately this year Wisconsin wasn’t even a “>.500” win as they’re...

The future of championship games is in jeopardy - Yahoo Sports

The announcers for the ACC game just verbalized a good case for SMU to stay in the 12. They lost today? So what. They’re 11-2, Bama 9-3 and didn’t make their own championship game. SMU showed they were toe to toe with a team that will be in the playoff so they certainly would be able to compete...

CFP Playoff Committee shoehorns in Alabama at the last minute for the second year in a row ... this year with 3 losses...

Yes! That’s my kind of bowl season. There was something so meaningful about the goal of every Big Ten team to make it to the Rose Bowl.

    Conference Championship Game Thread

Well if thats the case then it’s a consolation. I really wanted SMU to win this thing. With 2 loss Georgia beating Texas and 3 loss Clemson beating SMU, the southern teams are going to say their conferences are just so competitive. Though Clemson didn’t even play Miami or Syracuse, the 2 other...

The future of championship games is in jeopardy - Yahoo Sports

If the conferences are concerned about losing revenue from championship games, they have to factor in the loss of revenue if the conference game loser gets bumped out of the playoff. That, and the expanded playoff means even more games. So it’s possibly 12 regular season + a conference...

Gophers ‘absolutely’ will seek a quarterback in NCAA transfer portal

What kind of quality do you think he’ll get if he’s recruiting a backup? I don’t think anyone does that, at least intentionally. If a coach thinks his starter is already on the team then he’s not going to spend time and $ recruiting another guy unless there’s no depth at all, or if your starter...

Does Fleck get asked to interview for other coaching openings ?

Waiting for the settlement is probably what’s keeping him from pursuing a HC job. Part of his case I believe is the defamation from the accusations has damaged his employability for head coaching jobs so he’s seeking the buyout plus future income. That would kind of fall apart if he took an NFL...

CFP Playoff Committee shoehorns in Alabama at the last minute for the second year in a row ... this year with 3 losses...

I hate to point it out but he’s not wrong. Bama even had a bad loss late in the season to OU. And they didn’t exactly throttle an average Auburn team when they knew they needed to for the optics. I don’t think Illinois should be #12 at all but I think Bama should be like 15-18.

CFP Playoff Committee shoehorns in Alabama at the last minute for the second year in a row ... this year with 3 losses...

#11 is ridiculous. They lost to unranked 6-6 Vandy, not only losing but they never led in that game and gave up 40 points. They lost to Tennessee, OK that’s a “good” loss. They were totally shut down by unranked 6-6 Oklahoma. So 9-3 Bama lost to 2 teams in the bottom 1/3 of their own...

    Has Minnesota Surpassed Wisconsin?

If anything the Gophers are currently stronger in larger part because Wisconsin is weaker, not because the Gophers have moved up a tier or two. The same can be said of Iowa, who is getting weaker in the new B1G although Ferentz still owns Fleck.

    Has Minnesota Surpassed Wisconsin?

They are definitely on the downtrend, although it takes more than a couple down years to say a program has been surpassed. They’ve been even or ahead in B1G standings most of the last several years. They could be at risk of becoming a Nebraska of the 2010s, but I don’t think that will happen in...

How does anyone compete with this NIL power?

Great, so billionaire’s wife is annoyed that Michigan is losing again so they buy a HS QB for $12 million. Problem is not that there aren’t plenty of rich Minnesota alums. Since there’s not been a history to create die hard fans, they’re not going to just throw $10 million to recruit some kid to...

All Things P.J. Fleck Rumor Mill Thread - Listed as Candidate for Other Jobs

Where did you get 12th? I see him at 9th according to https://sportsdata.usatoday.com/ncaa/salaries/football/coach, so right in the middle. Thats about where the Gophers have averaged, middle of the pack. Riley, Fickell and Smith of MSU were definitely overpaid.
