I’ve never rooted against the Gophers. But this year I can’t get worked up about them win or lose. Nice if they win, but meh if they don’t. Just another nail in Johnson’s coffin (which should have been in the ground long ago).
Dammit. I see this thread at the top of the feed and my hopes soar. Only to get here and find it is a different school with the balls to move on from a bad coach that’s better than ours.
Ben is feeling the heat. His entire statement is “I”’not “we” which sounds defensive. Don’t blame me for our bad performance, I’ve never had the resources needed to win.
Goodbye and good riddance.
Johnson’s comparable is Iowa’s Todd Lickliter (the one name that stands out above all other Big Ten coaches as the poster boy for bad coaching). They had the same number of conference wins in their first three seasons. Can’t go beyond that because Iowa was smart enough to cut bait after three...
We’re now a fan base that is pulling hard to make Weakling Wednesday. Sure, it’s only because there is now something worse than that: getting left out altogether. Last year we let a decent (not great) season get pissed away down the stretch. Looks like we’re in danger of repeating that.
Moving forward with Smith was their only option. 😳
Apparently the Utah AD has the wisdom to ignore windbag baseball writers and the cajones to pull the trigger now.
Mark Coyle, on the other hand…
We’ve fired our last two coaches who had not only taken the Gophers to the Big Dance, but won games in the tournament. Now we’re not giving BJ a fair shot despite not sniffing the tournament in four years? The local idiots get all fired up over a couple of upsets and ignore the overall track...
Ben sets the new mark for conference coaching fails. He’s the new Lickliter but was somehow given a year longer than the previous poster child for losing.
One of the ultimate merit-based jobs. You might get the job for other reasons; the duration of your job might vary by a year or two +/- for other reasons; but in the end, your performance record doesn’t lie.
