I'd like to think that the last thing that went through his head, other than that bullet, was to wonder how the hell Ben Johnson ever got a Big Ten job.
Who the hell wants a do-nothing ditherer with literally zero accomplishments at his current stop and a cost of a million and a half a year? The university president who pulls that trigger should then turn the gun on themselves.
Mark Coyle makes $1.4 goddamn million per year. It's about time he earns it by showing some balls and firing the worst coach in the history of University of Minnesota athletics, and I want it done, in the words of Warden Norton of Shawshank Prison:
It’s time to acknowledge we have an athletic department and administration with a Dollar Store approach. It’s a shitty proposition where everything’s cheap and nothing has any importance. It’s been that exact way during my nearly 40 years of being a fan of Gopher sports.
Pitino also got 5 years under Coyle, so I can’t see him having the balls to invite the troubles with certain local constituencies that would come with not giving Johnson the same number of years as those two.
Plus, Crean’s brothers-in-law are Jim and John Harbaugh, so maybe he would bring Jim in for some of that patented weirdness (and winning). Our program could probably use both.
