FOS: College Football’s Future Is Here. Bowl Games May Have To Keep Up.

It will take a proper players union and lots of planning and meetings but just make the players employees. You play you get paid.

Syracuse football: our Ambassador of hatin’ is back to give Fleck flack

When your team's offense is about to only get 5 first downs, you've got to figure out some other way to enjoy the upcoming game.

Mike Leach offenses are a repellant for RB recruits anyway. If you're a RB there already, ouch, why?

PJ has been extended with new 7 year contract

Uhh yeah UNC is not quite the juggernaut you think it is. They don't play particularly well against a good run game. See GT.

    Mackey

I like Mackey and Judd. Their Wild stuff is good and entertaining. But their college football coverage (which they don't do) is about as knowledgeable as some rando you met at Walmart.

PJ Fleck on beating Wisconsin after losing to Iowa: ...well we’ve beaten Wisconsin twice and you all wanted me fired last week.

He won Wisconsin and finished with 8-4 and hopefully 9-4. The Iowa loss still has me a grumpy and it sounds like the team and coaches were upset probably more than me. Comments like this, eh, I don't care. Gophers start having a losing record in the Big, then I'll care.

Chip: No more service academy offense. No more run, run, run, run, run. The Gophers have a young QB with a cannon arm and a reservoir of confidence.

If a Gopher freshman QB has a cannon of an arm, good size, and has wheels that's something to want to see. If that freshman throws for 300+ yards with 2 tds and no ints - at Madison - and we retain the axe - how can people not paint with a broad brush?

A win against Iowa or Wisconsin is a quality win.

You do realize if Iowa beats us, they will win the west

Their offense sucks - really sucks. But their secondary has ball hawks. Minnesota needs to not turn the ball over and this game is won, IMO. Easier said than done.

    We've stagnated. Tough conversation below

Fleck does tend to right the ship when things take a bad turn. I lean much more toward the problem being NIL. I'm not confident in that situation ever getting better unless CFB goes full pro and has salary caps.

Souhan: Gophers, Vikings raise fan expectations for success as rivals wither in the early going

Let's see, the 2021 Gophers lost three games where the defense gave up less than 300 yards. <300 yards (Illinois, Iowa) <200 yards (Bowling Green) I don't want to continue kicking a dead horse, but the "do a better job" problem rested mostly on the previous OC's offensive play-calling. In...

Media Predictions Thread: Minnesota Vs. Western Illinois

After watching Western Illinois play UT Martin, I don't think they are better than NMSU. Their defense is worse, perhaps much worse.

KSTP: Q&A: Former Gophers coach Tracy Claeys on Jerry Kill’s return Thursday, P.J. Fleck, and more; "year zero burns my ass"

Still seems like a decent fellow. That said, this interview presents exactly why he should not be a Big 10 head coach. There was a point where he nearly dipped the topic in politics and oh man that could have made this interview the perfect train wreck. Anyway, aside from his naive...

    NEB vs NW Game Thread

    BAHHAHAHAAH

"Nebraska had two players hospitalized for rhabdo in 2018. In 2022, Scott Frost is bragging about how much his players are puking at practice."

I think the Frost train continues off the rails. Frost gets fired after losing to Rutgers. Later in the season, Nebraska can't muster more than 13 points against Minnesota. I don't see them making a bowl game, yet again.

    Jerry Kill - Dunkers

    Pure gold.

CFN: Seven wins has to be a given at this point for the Gophers under Fleck. Eight would be good, nine would be fantastic.

In this context, "given" is: Something that is certain to happen. Something taken for granted. Under Kill/Claeys, 6 regular season wins were probably certain to happen. 8 wins? That was the ceiling.

    Early Betting Lines

It is difficult to argue with how badly the offense played in that game. If Ciarrocca gives the offense a faint pulse, we put 30+ on them. Meanwhile NMSU will struggle to reach 200 yards on the day. I'm on the under with guessing 31-3.
