B1G Game 18: Gophers Visit Penn State

You can't lose two starters with a shallow bench and expect a team to be super competitive. You can't make players suddenly into 3-point shooters or make shooters good at driving to the basket. But, there must be something that they can focus on and get better at like passing or defense.

    Women's Hockey 2023-24 Season - Part 3: Playoffs

Great win. Good all-around play. It would be wonderful if yesterday was a wakeup call and the Gophers play at this level the rest of the season.

Good win today. The game was a rumble.

Women's Hockey 2023-24 Season -- Part 2: The Regular Season

Friday's game was excellent. Two piping hot goalies. Outstanding effort by both teams. Playing UMD is like playing a tournament game. Good preparation for the tournaments. I hope the Gophers can lift their games a notch for the tournaments. Go Gophers.

Women's Hockey 2023-24 Season -- Part 2: The Regular Season

Tough loss. Gophers left a lot on the ice yesterday and the Badger played like some pressure was off today. Gophers played hard but just did not connect on opportunities. They need to remain positive and continue to improve. They can make a good run in the tournaments.

    B1G Game 14: Gophers Host Northwestern (2-17-24)

Gophers needed that win. Good all around play. I hope they can build on today's success and forget the bad games.

Women's Hockey 2023-24 Season -- Part 2: The Regular Season

Excellent game between two top teams. Lot's of great plays. Tough to lose. Gophers needed to recoup for tomorrow and keep improving for the tournaments.

    B1G Game 13: Gophers visit Rutgers (2-13-24)

I don't equate Impact Player and Leader. They could be the same but sometimes are not. A Leader is a player who fosters team chemistry, inspires the team with their work ethic, energy, and spirit, encourages teammates, helps teammates adjust to college and basketball, sets good examples, etc...

    B1G Game 13: Gophers visit Rutgers (2-13-24)

We have a bunch of good young players. What we lack is an Impact Player; i.e., a player that can put the team on her back and/or lift the team when it is really needed; a player with lots of dimensions to her game and can beat you more than one way depending on what is or isn't working. We...

    B1G Game 13: Gophers visit Rutgers (2-13-24)

You Know You Are in Trouble When: you have to play your starters a huge amount of minutes against a team like Rutgers. Heyer, 40 minutes, GG, 39, Battle, 34, Hart, 33, and Sanders, 26. Heyer was very active and productive in the first half but wore down, Hart should play no more than 28...

    B1G Game 13: Gophers visit Rutgers (2-13-24)

Disappointing. The only thing uglier than the play in the first half was the officiating. The effort by the Gophers was excellent. However, the Gophers don't have enough contributions from the bench and the starters have to play too much and get run down.

Doogie Interviews Keegan Cook on the Start of Spring Practice

I think a team needs a diversity of age classes on the team so you don't end up losing a lot to graduation. I don't think in today's market that you can only depend on bringing in freshmen. I would never say NEVER to bringing in a one season player the caliber of Kylie Muir--an average player...

Ben Johnson: “We lost our edge. Even though we were up the energy, the vibe wasn’t what it needed to be. We got low into their pace.”

Bad management of players and fouls. I would rather lose players to fouls and maintain the lead than lose the lead and then lose players trying to catch up.

B1G Game 12: Gophers Host Ohio State (2-8-24)

Last year, I was not enthusiastic about Battle. However, I was impressed with her play the first half of this season and was ready to nominate her for the Most Improved Gopher. However, her play has deteriorated after the Wisconsin loss. I think she is pressing and is trying to lift her game...

B1G Game 12: Gophers Host Ohio State (2-8-24)

Gophers could be good if they didn't have to play the third period.

B1G Game 11: Gophers Visit Michigan State (2-5-24)

They are all D! athletes. My mid-major university, which has a good program, would probably be glad to pick up any of them. They also are Power5 athletes. At least a half a dozen teams in each of the Power 5 conferences would be happy to pick up our players. If you said that none of our...

Women's Hockey 2023-24 Season -- Part 2: The Regular Season

SH. I appreciate you being the number one fan and organizer of a Forum for the Gopher Women's hockey team. I like your information and viewpoint. However, you paste so many large files (pictures, videos, etc.) into your posts that it takes forever to load them to see what you are thinking. It...

    Coach Dawn Plitzuweit's First Season

I think it is early to judge Coach P's results. She is playing with house money because four of her starters have been holdovers. She maybe gets points for keeping them from jumping ship although they have been vocal about their commitment to Minnesota. Coach P gets points for recruiting GG...

B1G Game 10: Gophers Host Penn State (1-31-24)

It is the result that we feared but hoped wouldn't happen. PSU dominated the boards in the first quarter and were too fast for the Gophers. PSU's 3-point shooting was outstanding. On the other hand, the Gopher defense was erratic. I felt like Hart and Heyer are worn down by the season. The...

B1G Game 10: Gophers Host Penn State (1-31-24)

It will be interesting to see what combinations that coach P uses to replace Braun. Everyone needs to step up their games. This is a good opportunity for GG to take on more responsibility and for her game to develop further.
