On the other hand, propaganda could be worse

As posted at VolleyTalk. In short, Wisconsin steals its players from a variety of other programs. Only John Cook is more full of it these days. +++ A Wednesday feel good read written by the one and only Dennis Punzel. “Diversity may be a hot button topic in many corners these days, but for the...

In Year 2 under Keegan Cook, Gophers volleyball set foundation for brighter future

You read it right there: no excuses for 2025 should things not improve.

    Tough Question

Could be worse, of course. I offer you $765 million over 15 years as an example. An example, mind you. I'm not offering you $765 million. I just can't swing it right now.

    Tough Question

They lost to Stanford in the 3rd round in 2013. FWIW.

    Tough Question

I was going by what others were saying, that they missed the tournament in his 1st year. It was actually his third. Although I can't swear by that either. He made the tournament in 2012 and 2013 (regional finalist and regional semi-finalist) according to the Gopher website. But I think Laura was...

    NCAA match attendance.

Too bad about UNI, but I sure do want to see some new teams in the round of 8. Missouri, Purdue, Marquette (good luck with that), Creighton, TAMU and Dayton. Even be nice to see Florida return. What we don't need is Pitt, Kentucky, Stanford, Louisville, Penn State (yuck), Texas (double yuck)...

    NCAA match attendance.

Even the Pav seldom sold out for NCAA matches. I never really understood why. People want to have more time to plan to attend? The holidays? The prices? And let's not kid ourselves, hardly anyone showed up when the Gophers weren't playing. I don't understand that either. Don't people enjoy the...

    Tough Question

Which is sad. Because I was always a fan of the program. I just assumed the players were too. Once they started leaving to chase titles elsewhere? I can't pretend it didn't affect me. But if the players aren't loyal to the program, why am I supposed to be? And that's in general, not specifically...

    Tough Question

Not a Mel hater, but Cook is firmly planted on the hot seat. A third straight season like the last two falls squarely on his shoulders. (As does the season just concluded.)

NCAA Second Round: Gophers v Kentucky (12-5-24)

15 sets to the middle in 4 sets. Good thing they fixed that problem this season. And THAT is the most frustrating thing to me. They have the same problems they had in 2023. Some different players but the same problems.

Easier than Creighton last year, maybe.

Match 20: Gophers host Ohio State (11-29-24)

As for U of M athletics, you may be right that we really can't expect more than a scrappy team who will battle even the best, but will never be at that level. Like Purdue, Creighton, Penn State (not sure what direction that program is going without their boatload of transfers) and some others...

Match 20: Gophers host Ohio State (11-29-24)

That's not even close to what I said. I said OUR BEST CHANCE to be great is if Stella is great. No guarantee. Simple belief. My expectations are not championships or final 4s, although the ultimate goal is of course that. My expectation/hope is a return to top 10 status. Nothing you have said...

Match 20: Gophers host Ohio State (11-29-24)

I don't follow. 1) Mel isn't a 5-star setter 2) The quickest route to top 10 status is with an elite setter. 3) Some programs are top 10 without an elite setter because of the talent constantly coming in. 4) Where do you think Minnesota has been since SSS? I guess I don't understand why...

NCAA 1st Round: Gophers v Western Kentucky (12-5-24)

Glad they seem to have righted the ship. Things were looking a little leaky there for a while.

Match 20: Gophers host Ohio State (11-29-24)

Again, a great setter is more likely to turn inexperienced hitters into competent ones. If Stella is so-so, the program is in even deeper trouble than it is now.
