    2021-2022 Roster balance concerns

Michigan Beilen teams weren't big. They routinely play one true big along with either two true wings and two point guards or one true point guard and three wings. Zach Irvin was a 4 man for them at 6-foot-6 in the mold of a traditional small forward. Glen Robinson III was a 4 man for them at...

    2021-2022 Roster balance concerns

I think the current climate of college basketball tells us that guys transferring for reasons that make seemingly no sense is becoming the norm. Freeman and Williams are going to be juniors next year with no clear path to major role changes. I'm not sure we should expect them to wait around...

Reusse on 2020 Gophs: "a lot of slow guys...Who takes the fault for that, Fleck-o-lytes, after his three full recruiting years"

You can't be serious if you watched this defense during the year and thought speed wasn't an issue. The team routinely looked far slower than opposing offenses. Struggling to set the edge was a speed problem because LBs and DEs would routinely get outflanked. Safeties and LBs would take bad...

Reusse on 2020 Gophs: "a lot of slow guys...Who takes the fault for that, Fleck-o-lytes, after his three full recruiting years"

Beyond this line of thought - which is fairly common - being next-level childish, the very simple comeback is that it takes one to know one. And Reusse while annoying, is not wrong.

Dane Mizutani: We better enjoy Gophers basketball star Marcus Carr while we can

Don't see Carr as more than a fringe end-of-roster NBA guy but he's gone after this year. Guys that are as good as he has been this year rarely stay in college independent of their NBA prospects. So hopefully he keeps pouring it on and we win while we've got him.

    2021-2022 Roster balance concerns

Ihnen is not a SF at all. He has no handle and his jumper is valuable because, in theory, it pulls a bigger defender away from the hoop. If opposing teams can guard him with a guard - which I believe teams can because he has no interest in going to the rim - the advantage of having on the floor...

2020-2021 College Basketball Other Games Thread

There's some truth to this, but I'd push back simply on the idea that only one team wins every year, and if this team wins, then that team's coach gets the 'how did he not win more championships' treatment. You see this a lot with coaches like Calipari, Coach K, Williams, Self etc. but for all...

2020-2021 College Basketball Other Games Thread

Problem is that a lot of those 4 and 5 star guys Duke and UNC have gotten don't stay in college for more than a year. UNC hit a home run with Coby White and he was a one-and-done. Nassir Little was just a guy and left after a year (though they were a 1 seed in 2019). Leaky Black was a 4 star...

Agreed on all that stuff. Think they've got a lot of tourney-caliber teams but in recent years, the top of that league has had top-10 teams like Duke, Virginia, Carolina and Florida State or Louisville for spurts. All those teams were projected contenders and ranked highly in preseason polls...

How funny that Arizona would self impose one year ban on tourney during the year of Covid.

Agreed on UCLA. Cronin is a very good coach who will develop that team. I don't see it with ASU though I know they've got a lot of hype because of a couple one-and-doners. Stanford's coach is getting the recruiting juices flowing. Would've loved to see what that team could've been with Terry...

All Things Gophers Basketball Class of 2022 Recruiting Thread

If we are making recruiting bins of "point guard targets", "Wing targets" and "frontcourt targets", where does King fit in? Is he a point guard? If the Gophers were to secure a commitment from Holloman or Lipsey, would that mean King is out of the picture? And vice versa? I've always thought...

There's this weird dangle-measuring contest between Big 10 folks and ACC folks and just kind of examining the ACC through the first month of the season and what a weird league it's looking like: Duke: No good wins (unless Notre Dame counts). A couple bad losses. Bad by Duke standards. UNC...

How funny that Arizona would self impose one year ban on tourney during the year of Covid.

I'd like to see Arizona get back to being really good. The Pac 12 has been such a garbage league I swear like 9 out of the last 10 years. The only consistently good team is Oregon. Zona had a really nice couple year run with McConnell and some one-and-dones but has otherwise been mostly just...

Couldn't care less about his NBA prospects. Hope he signs with the Gophers (or Gonzaga because I like them too).

All Things 2021 Gophers Basketball Recruiting Thread

I've thought about this for some reason lately and with all the projected transferring that the college basketball world is in for this spring creates a lot of unknown for now. It would be nice if we had three top100 prospects locked and loaded for next year, but we've kind of swung and missed...

Shooter: Division I-bound St. Thomas, which lacks recruiting height, would seem a viable option for the former Orono star.

If Omersa leaves, that would open up a scholarship which would be nice because the team will need some guards next year

What would the Record of a Gopher MN Natives Team be right Now?

Why not add an "All MN coaching staff" to this thing?? We could have Dave Joerger, Medved, Lane Kiffin... Do other states do this? I can see where fans might lament missing a recruit they thought they had a shot at (Haliburton, Zegarowski, French etc.) but so many locals obsess over the...

Shama: Forget about Gophers junior point guard Marcus Carr returning next fall for a senior season.

I always enjoy when reporters have zero idea how the NBA draft works. There is no chance Carr is a 1st round NBA draft pick. And that is perfectly fine. The validation of his accomplishments don't need to be tied to his NBA prospects. Sort of unrelated but it's something that has annoyed me...

I disagree that he'll have a long career at Duke. I agree if the belief is that he should have a 3/4 year career at Duke. But for whatever reason, when guys are ranked where he was ranked by the recruiting services, very few of them stay more than even one year, almost independent of any sort of...
