Gophers guard Both Gach is expected to enter the transfer portal

Next year will be brutal but I'm still kind of excited to see what the future holds with Coach Johnson. Pitino would have had us in the mix for the NCAA tourney next year but the ceiling with his program at MN had probably been reached. Ceiling is higher for Johnson; but the floor...

Marcus Carr might be just what Kentucky needs. What’s his timeline for a decision?

Best of luck to Marcus. He left it all on the court when he played for the Gophers.

Gophers guard Both Gach is expected to enter the transfer portal

Hiring Johnson was obviously a big reach/gamble by the AD. It could pay off but its going to take time and patience. Will be fun to see all the new faces next year. Results: not so much.

Gophers guard Both Gach is expected to enter the transfer portal

An entire team quitting is quite the spectacle but the loss of Both Gach will have zero impact on the W-L record next year, which will be terrible. Year 2 will also be rough. Johnson has establish his culture in years 1-2 and recruit like an ace for the team to start turning a corner in Year 3...

Brandon Johnson enters the Transfer Portal

I wonder if our AD fully considered the possibility that all but two players would quit the team upon Pitino's dismissal. Johnson has been set up to fail in Years 1 and 2.

PAYTON WILLIS COMMITS TO MINNESOTA, RETURNS BACK

Really like this unexpected pickup. Peyton can knock down the open 3 and provides B1G experience and leadership. If he plays with commitment in Year 6 he will really help the team. I expect him to play quite a bit of PG.

Jamal Mashburn Jr. following Pitino to UNM?

Best of luck to mini-Mash as well as Coach Pitino. Both are total class acts. Will be following/pulling for UNM as time allows. Also have to admit the potential of the new regime in MPLS is exciting.

Marcus Carr might be just what Kentucky needs. What’s his timeline for a decision?

Calipari would definitely coach-out some of his bad tendencies (here's looking at you Coach Pitino) but he's in his athletic prime, has never had a serious injury, and would seem to have little to gain from another year of college ball. Marcus should begin his pro career. Edit: if he does in...

    David Mutaf

My understanding is that the Gophers led the country in 3-pt field goal attempts and were nearly last in 3-pt field goal conversion rate. One would think there was room on the court for a shooter like Mutaf.

    Carr in transfer portal

Cal better do his homework on Carr. He's better than what they had this year but he doesn't exactly hit shooters in rhythm.

    Gabe in Portal

Gabe may have left even if Pitino had been retained. Good luck to him; could find a bench role on a stronger team next year.

Discussion on transfer portal - Will Many Players be Disappointed?

The college basketball model seems to be on the verge of collapse. The on-the-court product is terrible; roster/coaching turnover insane; and pay-for-play momentum seemingly unstoppable. Fan loyalties/interest being tested to the max.

    Gabe in Portal

Probably as simple as he wants a better opportunity to play in the tournament next year and not be part of a rebuild. The flip side is that his shooting numbers have been bad and he might lose PT depending on where he transfers. I am also of the opinion that he has to leave now that his name...

Michael Hurt thrilled that Gophers have picked Johnson as their next coach

Hurt hits on what I think is an important point: Ben Johnson played DI basketball; Richard Pitino did not. I do think this creates a better understanding between coach and player and fosters some level of mutual respect. Does not guarantee success, obviously, but I think it can help.

What does Coach Johnson do with the transfer portal?

A system that plays to the young man's strengths might have helped too (a cutting offense; fast break opportunities etc). Ditto for Trey Williams and Ihnen. I hope this dramatically improves under Coach Johnson.

Jamal Mashburn Jr: I don't plan on staying and I'm just looking for the right situation for me.

Good luck to mini-Mash. He will be a good player wherever he goes. Bright kid as well.

In two years or three years we're going to be sick Coyle didn't hire Smith

Very serious. Outdoor paradise; affordable; zero unemployment. Very cool place.

In two years or three years we're going to be sick Coyle didn't hire Smith

Solid coach no doubt. Will be interesting to see if he leaves Utah State or sticks around a few more years. Logan, Utah hard to beat from a lifestyle standpoint. Good luck to Coach Smith, but its Ben Johnson time in MPLS.

    GOPHERS HIRING BEN JOHNSON

Coyle knew what he was doing. Craig Smith, Brian Dutcher, Niko Medved, the guy from Cleveland State--none of them moved the needle, and the Musselman obsession is just bizarre. Ben is a low floor/high ceiling hire and, for a perennially mediocre program, the right choice at this point in time.

    GOPHERS HIRING BEN JOHNSON

Comments on this board even more cynical and disappointing than usual. Home run hires rarely look like a home run when they are made. Pulling for Coach Johnson 100%.
