SI: Unexcused Absence: Why Is College Football Attendance Tanking?

It’s ridiculously difficult physically to climb Mount Everest. Getting physically into the stadium I would rate as something closer to inconvenient.

    Panagos to Rutgers

Hopefully we can find the right guy and get some continuity. The DL this year was far and away our weakest positional group, IMO.

Indiana's decision to go for two

Anybody else think Indiana screwed up by going for two after the scored their last touchdown with around five minutes left? At the time I thought they should kick the extra point because if Minnesota ends up scoring a touchdown then they could win it with a field goal. Going for two puts them...

Brainerd Dispatch: Maturi: Big Ten hockey was inevitable

I don't know. I dislike the Sioux with every fiber of my body (especially the current regime) but it feels hypocritical to blame North Dakota for trying to do what's best for them when we were complicit in the move that set the whole thing off. After a few exchanges with Maturi I do believe...

    Frozen Four 2011

I would probably change your post to say "It will not be fun to see Big Ten hockey soon. This will definitely not be the premier hockey conference." I agree with the part about the Bulldogs though.

    Frozen Four 2011

Thanks for posting Mr. Gopher. I was sitting up in the suite level and saw that Sue fan at the end of the game. I thought that he was flipping Michigan players the bird but couldn't tell. Par for the course for fans of that persuasion. Go Dogs tomorrow. Lets keep the title in the WCHA.

    Hockey and the Big Ten

That's exactly right. The U stands to lose much, much more than they do. And their AD was one of the major people pushing for the change. My understanding from what I heard today is that Maturi and the U were against moving out of the WCHA but were unable to keep it from happening.

    Hockey and the Big Ten

But the only additional programming going from one station to two would be Big Ten college hockey. They already have basketball and football. Spreading it over two channels as opposed to one doesn't mean you are getting anything extra besides hockey and people aren't naive enough to believe...

    Hockey and the Big Ten

There is no way that the Big Ten is going to be able to hold the cable and satellite programs hostage again over college hockey. Everyone caved the first time because of the widespread popularity of football and basketball. They are going to get laughed trying it a second time with hockey as...

    Hockey and the Big Ten

. Yeah, its been so wildly successful that the Phoenix franchise is about to end up in Winnipeg. I know that you think that anyone opposing Big Ten hockey is a small minded fool. However, most of us that oppose the move simply understand how great college hockey and playing in the WCHA...

    Hockey game on TV tonight?

Another enigmatic performance. Just when it looked like they had turned things around they come out flat in the first playoff game. Hopefully they can carry over some momentum from the comeback tomorrow night. It would be massively disappointing to get knocked out in the first round after...

    Hockey and the Big Ten

But for it to truly grow it needs not just the backing of a TV network with clout but people who want to start watching college hockey. I think that our divergence of opinion consists of whether or not people from the states of IA, NE, IN and so on will start watching college hockey because it...

    Hockey and the Big Ten

Another side of of all of the Big 10 teams and Pac 10(or 12) adding hockey programs that needs to be considered is that the quality of the hockey is going to take a major hit. Even if enough people would be interested in watching college hockey in California I don't believe that the region...

    Hockey and the Big Ten

If this were to happen I would view it as a tragedy as great as a sports team leaving town. The WCHA IS a flagship conference right now. Creating a Big Ten conference isn't going to create more hockey fans. Hockey is a highly regional sport and that isn't going to change. The only thing that...
