This was better than I expected. Still too many errors but at least some flashes of competent volleyball. I'm also pleased that Landfair didn't have a huge night against them. That would have been seriously depressing.

Today was better than Thursday night but still not good enough to beat a really good Oregon team. The Oregon block killed us tonight and when we did get a spike through the back row defense was strong as well. Julia Hanson was about the only bright spot today.

That was pathetic. Errors, errors, errors. Washington did not win this match. The Gophers gift wrapped it and presented it to them on a silver platter.

That is a very interesting question Ski U Mah Gopher. It shouldn't matter but the NCAA has proved time and again that cash is king. I'm sure their official answer would be that arena size is not a factor but it would not be surprising at all if it played a role.

Washington will not be a pushover. Going to need to play a solid match to win. Oregon on Saturday will be even tougher. With solid play they can win both and add 2 quality wins to the resume. Going to be a fun week at the Pav. Go Gophers!!

As of this moment the "bad" losses you quote were to teams ranked 11, 17, 18, and 21. Those might be disappointing losses but they are not bad losses. Three of the 4 were 5 setters and 2 were true road games.

I like the way Walleye summed it up. This team is good, not great. They have a couple very nice wins, a few frustrating but acceptable losses, and importantly no bad losses. The great teams all seem to have that one player who can dominate a match all by themselves. Think Sarah Franklin or Jess...

Anyone thinking this will be an easy win for the Gophers based on OSU's record is wrong. They took Penn State to 5 sets recently. Emily Londot is an excellent player and they have a freshman hitter named Emi Sellman who is playing like a future All American. This will be a hard fought match.

Nice win but Northwestern is not good. I didn't like seeing Lydia Grote in street clothes. Let's hope whatever kept her out is a short term thing. Highlight of the night was the student who dressed up as blanket lady. After being crowned winner of the costume contest he even did a run. Too bad...

Winning matches against bad teams never hurts. Doesn't help a ton either. There are a bunch of matches left against good teams to at least solidify the seeding if not improve it some. I'm not sure what people expect. This is not a top ten team. Something from 11-16 would be a good accomplishment...

Not sure if Wucherer had a nagging injury before they shut her down. I agree she was very good this last weekend. If we get that Wucherer going forward it will be a huge plus. Phoebe just hasn't been all that prolific with her blocking. That's job 1 for a middle. Again, if we get something more...

We're about halfway through the season so it's time to hand out some mid-season grades. Schaffmaster- A. So nice to see her healthy. Defense has been great and she's even setting the middles. Palabiyik- A-. Struggled a little early but has settled in nicely. Better player than I expected...

On paper this looks like an easier week. Indiana and Maryland are teams you need to beat if you're going to have a good season. The USC loss was tough although they are pretty good. Their setter is the best I've seen this year. Very crafty and kept all of her hitters involved.

I think the Volleyball match should have gotten the prime time slot on Big Ten network. Let football start at 10:00.

You might be right. We won't know for sure about Gilk until she gets here and starts competing at this level. Looking forward to seeing here. Sounds like she's good.

Sydney has played a little. She's done some good things and clearly has talent. I think she's caught in a numbers game. Even with Grote gone next year she's still behind Hansen, Wucherer, Acevedo & Crowl. If she wants to play she might need to transfer.
