St. Thomas? He hasn't been very good elsewhere.

***MINNESOTA AT NEBRASKA BOTH TEAMS NEED A WIN IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

I look at the schedule and don't really wonder why this team has lost 9 of 10. That said, I also wonder how much those cancelled/postponed games affected this team in the long term. A home game against PSU early in the conference season. Winnable game at home, before adventuring out on the road...

    Ben Johnson and this team

I was against change for the sake of change. I liked the talent on last year's roster. For years, I gave Pitino a break because he really did have a ton of injuries derail his success. That said, I think Johnson is quickly making the case that a) he can coach, b) he can get players to buy-in to...

Brief MN mentions in "Inside WI Recruiting" from The Athletic

And there it is...When was the last time a football player did something off the field that embarrassed the program? As much proof as anything that its not just lip service. Fleck didn't invent the idea of developing a culture, and it has been perfected in football before (cf. Bill Belichick) so...

Brief MN mentions in "Inside WI Recruiting" from The Athletic

Let's go with the entire mortgage on he's a homer. Approximate real risk? Zero

Gophers men's basketball seeing rewards from their emphasis on defense

I have written often that dismissing Pitino was a waste of time and resources. My rationale: Pitino was let go because the Jones, Holmgrens, Hurts were not signing in Minnesota. "Close the borders". Of note, the border wall will never be built. That said, I am ready to eat a shit load of crow...

    Ex-Gophers playing against each other

Correction: That roster finished about 10th in the ridiculously good big ten last season. Where do we finish if Robbins was healthy all year? Answer: He would have been good for 3-4 wins, easily. That would have put us about 5-6 in the Big Ten, good enough for 6 or 7 seed. A lot of confirmation...

So far I am totally wrong...

2 wins in the BIg 10 you will be thrilled. Let me ask you this. What would you be thrilled with if Pitino was still here and you were looking at fresh season with: a pair of transfers plus Kalschuer, Carr, Robbins, Mashburn Jr, and maybe Johnson and Curry. If healthy, second round is realistic...

So far I am totally wrong...

Exhibit A: Tre Holloman is NOT a gopher. Exhibit B: Tre Holloman is NOT a ridiculous talent like Suggs or Holmgren. And yet, he is still NOT a gopher. Exhibit C: Your level of excitement about a Braden Carrington versus Tre Holloman. Didn't we fire Pitino for not keeping Minnesota Talent in...

So far I am totally wrong...

Sounds familiar. If Robbins is healthy for 20 Big Ten games, the gophers would have been a 7 seed. Pitino was hamstrung by injuries every year and we paid him money to leave. Here we are. New Coach, New roster (with open season on transfer recruiting), and here we are.... Same situation. If you...

So far I am totally wrong...

You must be a "year zero" kind of guy. No offense, but Curry & Ihnen are the only two players who stayed for Johnson. And the talent he brought in, leads to 6 other guys who probably don't start at most places. Now, 2022, he is getting the midlevel guys. Cool. Last time I checked Battle, Willis...

    From now on

There will come a time when we will be dissatisfied with good, but not elite and dump him just like Glenn Mason. Don't know what you got, til it's gone. If you think about it, the gophers dominated Iowa for the majority of 4 quarters in Iowa City. That's entertainment. A handful of plays that...

So far I am totally wrong...

I concur. You can tell Johnson & Thorsen can coach. That's not the issue. The question is can they recruit? So far, the answer is a resounding no. Obviously, they were unable to convincingly describe their vision to random young men. We only see 7 players making it to the court. One injury...

    Ex-Gophers playing against each other

Can you imagine the excitement: Carr, Kalschuer, Robbins, Tre, Mashburn Jr. But you all had to run Pitino out of town. Thanks! I still don't get the hate. The grass aint always greener. Now, maybe I'm wrong in 2 years. But 2 years aren;'t promised to anyone so maybe some of us will never know...

    Ex-Gophers playing against each other

Notice Gabe came out for 19, but 1-6 from range. Always thought Gabe should work inside out. Very creative scorer off the dribble. Then take what comes to you from the stripe.

    14-3 to 9-7 is a big step backwards…

And...a game in which TJ dropped a VERY catchable ball that could have led to a win if he doesn't drop it? They were in position to win. They didn't make the plays.

STrib: Gophers hoops freshmen Treyton Thompson, Laye Thiam making 'huge strides'

When you are athletic, you can compensate and overcome. Quick twitch style basketball. See Oregon elimination of Iowa last March. Size is a factor, but so is quickness and athleticism. I firmly believe this is why many (i.e., not Michigan) Big Ten teams disappoint in the tournament.

Big Ten West after 6 Weeks

Honestly, it felt like Michigan took a nap after halftime last night. They played like the game was over. Engaged and fully motivated, Michigan wins by 2-3 touchdowns. Now Nebraska took advantage of the emotional letdown, but I still think Nebraska is just as fraudulent as ever.

STrib: Proctor HS football season canceled amid 'serious misconduct' investigation

Not for nothing. This wasn't a tape a guy to the goalpost hazing. It sounds like someone was bound and sexually assaulted as part of a team activity. That's a felony. The question just becomes who doesn't get charged with a felony? How many knew what was happening. How many directly...
