What is the number one change you'd make to the cuurrent program?

This! This was the biggest problem we had on Saturday. It was chaos out there and the Gophers looked completely unprepared. On both sides of the ball. I like Fleck. He's coached better & recruited better than anyone else we've had since Holtz. BUT...on gamedays, he's not exactly Bill Belicheck.

What is the number one change you'd make to the cuurrent program?

Weber was no ace. He wasn't exactly a passing god in his time at the U. Neither was Morgan. Also, how do we know they'd be good coaches? Why is this seen as some sort of fix for Athan's accuracy problems? Grab a former player who was OK and hope (although they're completely unproven as a coach)...

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA VS GOPHERS SPRING GAME IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

I thought Maverick B & Stolsky both made some nice plays in the scrimmage as young ILB. Not a lot of D stand-outs overall, though. The safety group didn't make much noise. Was hoping a young S would show out. I really like our OL depth. I think we've got some good young ones in the pipeline and...

Official 2023 Roster Movement Thread - Who's In and Who's Out?

Boe makes me nervous. I don't feel he's ever looked good in spot duty in the past. He's very limited athletically. If Shaw is behind him...let's look at the portal.

Official 2023 Roster Movement Thread - Who's In and Who's Out?

I question whether Dixon was an off-the-ball safety at all. He seemed like a S/LB hybrid, but i'm not 100% sold that he was going to be a starter at the S opposite Nubin next year. I feel like he was run-support only and didn't have the range to play in a 2-deep look. He certainly had a role...

Braelon Oliver (Sr LB) Into the Portal

First, i don't think losing Oliver is a huge issue. It's not great. It's depth, but he's average, at best. As for the portal, if a head coach can walk out the door any time he wants for more money and greener pastures, why shouldn't players be allowed that same freedom? I don't love the portal...

PJ Fleck has become Jerry Kill

I agree, for the most part. The issue is, i think this was supposed to be "one of those years" when the stars aligned and we won 9-10 games. Multiple 6th year starters returning at key positions, some of the premier programs perceived to be in down years in the West and the 6th year under PJ...

Our 5 remaining games are all very winnable

Where is the talent? Mo - Really good. Walley - Really good T. Smith - Playing really well BSF - Having a solid season JMS - Elite at his position That's all i've got. OL has underwhelmed. DL has underwhelmed. LB are average. Safety is weak. WR is weak. Do we even have a WR or RB to get...

The regression since the MSU game is crazy

The oldest guys, Morgan, CrAB, JMS & Mo are not the problem at all. I don't think it's a lack of motivation for the players, i think it's a lack of talent. Every school in the country is dealing with the extra covid years and older players. That's no excuse. I also disagree about the portal...

The regression since the MSU game is crazy

If fans are acting like it's a lock we beat IA & WI because they are down this year, think again. Yes, those programs are down, but if you've been watching the Gophers lately you'll see that we are down, too. Who would normally have a better team in a down year, all things considered? I'd put my...

The regression since the MSU game is crazy

I think you nailed it right here. We have beaten 4 bad to really bad teams and lost to 3 good teams. After the MSU game everyone really felt like we had taken a big step & the national media was buzzing. They won't make that mistake again.

PJ Fleck has become Jerry Kill

He's better than Jerry Kill, but our program is right where it's been the last 10 years. Even with Purdue & below Michigan, OSU, PSU, Wisconsin & Iowa. We haven't jumped any levels. 2019 feels like a long time ago and if you look at our recruits for 2023...there's not much to get excited about...

Mar’Keise Irving enters the transfer portal

You're correct. They probably will recruit a bunch more really good RBs. BUT...getting them to walk in the door is one thing. Getting them to stay is another. One they seem to be really good at, the other seems to be more of a challenge lately.

Mar’Keise Irving enters the transfer portal

Potts & Ky Thomas are solid, but limited athletically. Irving was the best of the 3 and this is a huge loss. I’d like to ask the HC how this kid decided to walk out the door at this point. Retaining your good players is every bit as important as signing them.

Dabo: It's chaos right now. Tampering galore. Adults manipulating young men. Education is like the last thing right now.

Maybe. I see it happening right now, but it might mellow out. I just see the allure of playing in big stadiums on national TV with the ability to enhance your draft profile as enticements too hard to resist vs. playing Tuesday night MACtion games or worse yet, no national TV games for 1AA or D2...

Dabo: It's chaos right now. Tampering galore. Adults manipulating young men. Education is like the last thing right now.

The portal madness is brand new to college football. Give it a few years and things will settle down. Right now, all of the athletes see the benefits & freedom the portal provides. The lure of NIL money to specific schools, as well. However, after some of the negatives start being reported on...

National Signing Day, and off we go!

This happens in our association, as well. Not only do tryouts interfere with games & practices, but there are leagues that start play in early October. I had kids on my 8th grade team playing a hockey game at 4p in Rochester and then rushing to a 6:30p football game in Lakeville. Hockey will...

What grade would you give the Gophers coaching in the OT loss at Maryland?

Agree 100%. That loss was all on the coaches and the buck stops with Fleck. There is no excuse good enough to cover the stink. I’m a Fleck supporter but that was his team, his recruits and his strategy on display last night and it was all garbage. The O strategy in the 4th Q was exactly as you...

    Is it Sanford???

No screen passes, no jet sweeps, no reverses or any type of counter or boot action. MD sold out on the run in the 4th Q and we never made them pay by exploiting that. That’s coaching. That’s strategy. That’s football. Our O strategy late really hurt us and that’s all on Fleck. We know the D is...

    0-1 How feel you?

The offense is reliant on 2 players. CAB barely got a look. Are we looking at Keift as a playmaker? I hope not. BSF...if he’s 3rd on the depth chart at TE, that tells me he may not be the next Kellen Winslow. However, could we not even TRY a fade to him? Where was Seth Green? Bad news: the D has...
