Why can’t we run the ball?

I think we're capable, but in order to run the ball you have to be dedicated to it. It can't be something you do once in a while. This week would be a perfect time to come out running early & often. I think Greg Johnson is going to be a very good player, but he needs time to grow. Still, Boe was...

    How many wins are left????

A max of 3 more wins. UCLA, Maryland & maybe Rutgers. Slight chance: USC & WI. We're not going to beat WI at Camp Randall if we don't have an effective running game in place by then. I think USC's QB is too good & we won't get enough pressure. No chance: PSU & IL. PSU has too much talent on...

    A huge concern

We hadn't run tempo before & Michigan was unprepared for it. We've run it now, other teams have seen it & will expect it. That may make it less effective in the future.

    A huge concern

Hilarious. He comes in for a carry, hits the hole hard and gains 8 yards....and is banished to the bench for the rest of the game. Now that's coaching. Major is so over-hyped but he still gets a ton of playing time.

2024 MN High School Football thread

The North game was misleading. North made mistakes & Rosemount cashed-in, but by halftime North was back on top and had the momentum. The score looked close, but LN could have easily put up another TD at the end of the game, but decided to kneel on it. This is a very down year for Rosemount...

It appears an undefeated college football team ranked in the top 30 of the AP Poll just lost its starting quarterback ... because of an NIL dispute.

The beginning of the end. If you're a top 35 program, life is good. If you're a school like MN, Pitt, UNLV, or Memphis St you're a feeder program. You recruit kids, and if any of them outplay their star ranking a big, well-heeled program will come along and scoop them up. You can keep anything...

    Where Are We Headed

Can a program like Minnesota afford to have 2 bad seasons back to back in the new CFB landscape? You can wait on this year's recruiting class if you'd like, but are you assuming those players are going to be here in 2 years? Perich, DT, Lindsey...why are they going to stick around & lose when...

Isn’t the offensive line the biggest issue?

I think the TE play has been awful in the run game. Also, if we're going to play with 2 TE all the time, even when we split out 4 receivers, shouldn't we maybe recruit better, more athletic TE? The personnel groups vs Iowa were baffling. 3rd and long, with 2 TE split out? Are the rest of our WR...

    Perich at safety

The Gophers are headed for another losing season. You may as well play Perich and enjoy what you have for 1 year because i'm sure there will be an exodus after the season. Good players don't want to stick around in a program headed in the wrong direction. We'll be lucky if we hold on to Perich...

    Brosmer

Brosmer is fine. He's not a stud, but he's the best QB we've had in a while. It would really help if we could focus on the running game & get that going. Right now, with the pass-heavy play calling, the whole game is riding on Brosmer and he's not that kind of QB. Need more balance & success in...

Isn’t the offensive line the biggest issue?

I agree on Taylor. He's clearly not 100%. His movement seems very limited and there's not much burst there right now. Also, Major was badly over-hyped in the pre-season. He's a big back that wants to run small, but doesn't have the agility to do it. He should be a 1-cut runner, but he's not.

Bye PJ - hello this guy

The coordinators that are brought in are often rookies who don't command a big salary. PJ isn't bringing in anyone big. He's not making changes to HIS system. It's not the pay for our OC/DC, it's the fact that PJ won't bring in an experienced coordinator with his own system...someone who has an...

Isn’t the offensive line the biggest issue?

Well, when the coaches completely give up on establishing the run it's very difficult to...establish the run. How does an o-line get better at run blocking and develop cohesion in the run game? By running the ball. Sometimes it takes a little time to gel. I don't think we've given the OL a...

Underpaying Coaches - Is this our top problem?

I think you nailed it. We bring in new coordinators on both sides of the ball multiple times over the years under PJ, but they run PJ's schemes on both sides of the ball. We've never seen variations on D at all. Same positions, same alignment. Offense has morphed a bit, but in a bad way, in my...

Tennessee to add 10 percent 'talent fee' to ticket prices to raise money to give to players

The university makes money on all the new TV deals. The head coach & his staff make a bundle of money. The AD is making solid money, too. None of the money the university & the football program gets from media rights can go directly into the the players' pockets, so let's make the 1 group of...

This Iowa game is a BFG

A home game against a good, not great opponent. These are games the Gophers should win. There are teams that have been down, below us that are gaining serious momentum. Indiana, Illinois, Nebraska & Northwestern are on the upswing. Rutgers is, too. It would be a bad look if we started losing...

2024 MN High School Football thread

I watched Eastview play against Rosemount this week and it was just sad. That program used to be good, but those days are long gone. I don't think i've ever personally seen a worse HS football team.

P.J. Fleck on struggling offense: 'This isn't backyard football'

That was a bad loss and a lot of weaknesses were exposed. The OL cannot pass block. Carroll, in particular, struggles badly. I really thought our TE blocking was as bad as it's been since before Jerry Kill. I also think the OC is in over his head. Last year was terrible, game 1 this year was...

    Dear Mr Coyle:

No Jet Sweeps, No counter actions (unless you count the 1 or 2 times the QB keeps on the Zone Read), No bubble screens, no screen passes of any kind...completely bland, basic and unimaginative. Worst of all, easy for opposing coaches to prepare for. I hear a lot about how bad Athan is.....but...

Fleck after Purdue loss, “It’s all on Me”.

Did PJ Fleck write this for you? We're not complaining about not being able to compete with the big boys in our conference, we're talking about absolute flops against the likes of Northwestern, Illinois & Purdue. All bad teams, all beatable, all crushing defeats. College football is just as...
