Recent winning tradition and depth provides WI with that advantage. We have neither currently.

    Ben Johnson and this team

Hard to judge Ben on this season. He was thrown into a tough situation at a program mired in mediocrity for 24 years and counting. He had 1 holdover player in Ihnen and another in Curry who returned for his 6th season. TT was a Pitino recruit who stayed. Ben seems to have made in roads in...

All Things Gophers Basketball Class of 2022 Recruiting Thread

Be careful about too high of expectations for Ihnen. Granted he played under a dysfunctional Pitino-led system, but his stats leave a lot to be desired: That being said, we could have used him, although he offered little offense from the post. Most of his damage was from around the arc.

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT MARYLAND IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

WI had a winning program and depth in younger players. This team has no depth and is not competitive this year. I would have tried to give our (2) young players some decent playing time to give them experience going into next year. We were not competing for a B1G title like WI. Unless a MN big...

He was primarily a spot up shooter in high school too. Beautiful stroke.

In a rebuilding season in which they are now 4-15 in B1G play, giving TT and Thiam some minutes will help their development for next season. Game experience cannot be duplicated by practice. Let them fail and learn from and play thru their mistakes this year instead of next year. Put TT on the...

Sorry, Battle and 4 bricklayers. Subtract Battle and rest of team is 6 for 26 from anywhere.

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT MARYLAND IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Ben could at least position TT down low and run something for him to give him a chance instead of 5 bricklayers out around the arc. Just get some cuts to the hoop and ball movement would help. Ugly offense and even worse defense.

All Things Gophers Basketball Class of 2022 Recruiting Thread

If Payne and either Henley or Carrington ( or both) can see 10-15+ minutes per game then I would take it as a good sign that Ben has recruited quality players that he is developing for the long term. Relying on transfers to play the bulk of the minutes is not a recipe for sustainable success...

Assuming no transfers out and Henley signs, Gophers will 9 scholarship players going into 2022-23 season. How many additional scholarship players are brought in? 3? Will these be all transfers? What are the latest rumors?

Did anyone attend the POCG - MHA game yesterday and can give a report? From the stats, it looked like a back and forth between Payne and Aligbe.

With yet another beat down, Will Ben learn from his mistakes and try to adjust instead of doubling down on his status quo? It is alarming we see no changes.

We are at that point in the season to experiment and to play for next year. Rock bottom.

Failure of any semblance of an inside game I the absence of red hot shooting is a recipe for disaster. Have to get some high percentage looks.

Hard to win when you have no inside game at all. Few high percentage shots.

Payne, Ihnen, TT, and Fox should help our rim protection next season and help fix one of the glaring needs they have now. The other big weakness with this years’ team is PG, as others have said. Need someone to lead and facilitate and breakdown a D when the other team extends their D. Our CGs...

He played limited minutes as a back up big the only time I have seen him play. A sample size of one. He is strong, but didn’t slash. He drifted to the 3 point line mainly on offense, like most players these days. He might have thrown up a shot from the paint. At that level of prep school...

From watching his HS game on TV last month, Ola-Joseph is not a 3, but the same type of role player that Ogele is now. He needs to lose some weight and get a better handle and shot to play any meaningful minutes next year. He is a project.
