***OFFICIAL INDIANA AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Cooper is strong on boards tonight. TT needs 40 lbs of muscle.

An iron 5 again but no choice. JOJ appears hurt.

Garcia and Payne Sidelined for Tonight's Game vs. Indiana

He should have given the 13th spot to a high school PG like Alonzo Dodd (note: 48% FT would fit in). I would rather give a high school guy like that a chance to learn than a grad transfer with no pedigree like Samuels. Failing to recruit a single PG was a terrible mistake.

Garcia and Payne Sidelined for Tonight's Game vs. Indiana

Didn’t Ford-Spann play BB for Tech? We could use him.

***OFFICIAL INDIANA AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

This game will get ugly fast. Save Battle’s back and wear/tear on Cooper. Give Henley, TT, Ramberg, and probably Purcell extended minutes. I’ll watch Hallmark Channel with wife 🤢.

Garcia and Payne Sidelined for Tonight's Game vs. Indiana

No excuse for keeping our key players like Battle, Garcia, Cooper late in blowout games like Purdue, IL, etc. Play Henley, TT, and Ramberg types and save the wear and tear on your key guys as best you can. The close Michigan game teased Ben into playing extended minutes for his 5-6 guys. All...

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT MICHIGAN IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Ihnen was playing against this same point guardless-Gopher team we are watching now, so of course he looked good in comparison. 🫤

    Ben Johnson is a Disaster

I certainly hope next season Ben will position Evans differently than Payne on offense, although for last 2 seasons he has an Evans-sized TT only float around the perimeter instead of posting up inside to make use of his height for offensive rebounding, if nothing else.

All Things 2023 Gophers Basketball Recruiting Thread

Since Kayden Betts was a 2023 commit that reclassified, enrolled early and is redshirting this year, I am bumping this up to see if some with knowledge of how is doing can share with us how he has progressed, what can we expect next season, where does he fit in, how does he look in practice...

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT MICHIGAN IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Occasional high-low action. On the rare occasion we do have a hard, open cut or roll to basket, they seldom look and make the pass. Too much of 4-5 bricklayers standing around the arc. We only have 1-2 guys that can hit the 3 anyway.

***OFFICIAL PURDUE AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Payne battles and does some good things defensively for a freshman, but he has no offensive game yet. Henley is a hot mess. JOJ is strong. We need scorers and creators desperately. Purdue is an impressive team. Well constructed and coached.

Dennis Evans moves to number 11 Nationally on Rivals

Fox and Ihnen will be competing for time too. TT appears to be “encouraged” to leave. Hard to get a feel for where he is at with very limited minutes. Greater front court depth next year should be a nice problem.

***OFFICIAL ILLINOIS AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Encouraging to see the improvement in all areas. They will have nice depth next year, especially if they can add a PG via the portal. Ben and staff have done a nice job in raising the level of play of this team. Anyone have insight in how Betts is doing in practice? Strengths? Weaknesses?

***OFFICIAL MISSISSIPPI ST AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

I was unable to watch much of the game. In looking at the stats, it appears Ben essentially reverted to 7 guys that played, with Henley, TT, Ramberg getting 2 min each. In Marcus Fuller’s 4 takeaways article, he mentioned a twisted ankle for Cooper and cramping by Payne and Samuels. With 3 guys...

    Ben Johnson is a Disaster

Completely agree. The challenge going forward is to find a style of play to survive with this mix of players on both offense and defense. Is Ben willing to change his systems to better utilize the talents his players have and to mask their deficiencies?

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT VIRGINIA TECH BIG TEN/ACC CHALLENGE IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Gophers have size, but cannot hit the outside shot and are slow to the ball when rebounding or closing out on D. I like the youth and potential, however it is discouraging to see Ben fail to adjust our offense to take advantage of length and go to an inside out game with more cutters/movement to...

    Time to start the freshmen

Before B1G play, I’d like to see more of Carrington at the expense of a little of Cooper’s minutes. We need to find/develop a second PG. I was wrong about Ola-Joseph after watching one prep game on ESPN last year. He has some life to his game. The freshman played like freshman against DePaul...

Gophers target: Morehead State PG Ta'Lon Cooper (5.9 APG)

He may have shot well, but he only played in 6.1 min/game on his Juco team. He was a project then and remains one now.
