All Things Tre Holloman Recruitment Thread (Class of 2022)

Can't hurt. Gotta imagine he'll play 2 but he could obviously play up to 3 seasons with the COVID year. Between Hoggard (I know he plays off ball a bit for them too), Walker and 2021 signee Jalen Akins, they're set at PG for awhile. Big chance at a statement win on the trail for Ben and his...

    Assistant Coaches

For Coyle to end the search so abruptly and hire Ben, he had to have been throwing around some notable names for potential assistants and with how he spoke about the emphasis on recruiting (specifically in state) at Johnson’s intro presser, this would make a lot of sense. One thing I’ve been...

How do you think Dain Dainja and Kendall Brown end up at Baylor? Who's the lead recruiter for Trejuan Holloman for Baylor? I'm not convinced we can offer Nuness more than they can or if he'd have interest but if he does, he should be one of the first calls. Can't turn away elite recruiters, we...

When can we start expecting better recruits?

I gotta say using Wisconsin as an example only strengthens the argument of emphasizing recruiting in-state and within the region as is reflected in your list of Badger stars. Even if you look beyond that group, you'll see that this golden age of Wisconsin basketball was built on players from...

Who and when do you think will be Johnson’s first commit?

I would guess Demarion Watson-Saulsberry. Good wing prospect that can shoot the 3 and has the length and athleticism to have some upside as a good defender. He was offered by Xavier while Johnson was there so there's likely already somewhat of a relationship there, already has a zoom meeting set...

Ben Johnson is OUR coach thread, he’s got my full support!!!

By who? David Kahn? Glen Taylor? Do I think there would have been disapproval? Without a doubt...I mean I was and part of me still is skeptical but I also don't think other fanbases have our built in expectation that everything will go south (I blame local media partially for that) which leads...

Ben Johnson is OUR coach thread, he’s got my full support!!!

I would say the response has been stronger than tepid on here especially for an alum coming back home. I’m sure there were some skeptics but I don’t think Iowa State fans were this strongly opposed to Fred Hoiberg coming back to Ames, his post playing career resume was that of an executive in a...

Who and when do you think will be Johnson’s first commit?

and this list doesn't include SG Braeden Carrington from Park Center who's a good shooter with Florida, Missouri and Seton Hall offers and PF Elvis Nnaji from Hopkins who has Marquette and Arizona offers. Very deep class.

    Press Conference at 11:00 CDT

People should go watch Juwan Howard's introductory presser as it's pretty similar to Ben's. He's not laying out his specific philosophy, he's not listing off assistants he's considering or a timeline for when his staff will be announced....pressers like these are meant to be a celebration more...

La Velle Neal: The up-and-comer. The hometown guy. Maybe a little local flavoring is what this program needs right now.

Fenton got fired because the Wild have a reactionary owner. Some of the moves Fenton made in a year have set the Wild up to have success this year and beyond. Maybe that's something we should take a lesson from.

I don’t know, a lot of Fenton’s moves are paying off now. Fenton signed Zuccarello, traded for Fiala, signed Ryan Hartman, Rask has been pretty solid, drafted Matt Boldy who’s a Hobey Baker finalist, drafted Vladislav Firstov who’s looked good at UCONN, and drafted Adam Beckman who was the WHL...

Definitely defense. Ostrom is a good shout. He was the primary recruiter for Miller's three biggest commits in Romeo Langford, Trayce Jackson-Davis and Khristian Lander (Lander hasn't really panned out yet).

Amir: Great hire Minnesota; Gopher ball is in good hands! Oturu: Best thing I’ve read in a while. Major reason why i put that maroon and gold on

I think that’s true for established coaches, I don’t think Coach K is asking much of his assistants. For inexperienced coaches though, I think assistants play a much bigger role and often times make or break young coaches. Recruiting is definitely a big part of it but I also think they help mold...

Amir: Great hire Minnesota; Gopher ball is in good hands! Oturu: Best thing I’ve read in a while. Major reason why i put that maroon and gold on

I think there’s a trade off as we’ve seen with Fleck, PJ’s been paid a good amount of money but as a result, the pool for assistants hasn’t been as big which is part of the reason why they’ve lost a few good ones while making underwhelming assistant hires from the outside. Michigan underpaid...

The local 2022 class is loaded, there's 4* Joe Hurlburt from North Dakota (2022 class) who grew up a Gopher fan and should be gettable for a good recruiter, Taison Chatman in the 2023 class is a great recruit...I've said in a couple other threads but Trejuan Holloman is the key here, you land...

    Next Gopher Head Coach

lol I was just thinking about this. 95 pages of arguing over the resumes of guys with head coaching experience just to hire Ben. I'm interested to hear who the assistants are but boy is this deflating.

    GOPHERS HIRING BEN JOHNSON

I'll be interested to see who his assistants are and think that's key. Bring Dave Thorson back to Minnesota (who he obviously played for) and I can breathe a little. I imagine they'll have a fair amount of money to play with when it comes to assistants with Ben likely being the lowest paid coach...

I think the buyout drops significantly after 23-24 season or something like that but that is a good point. Probably should have said the heat from the fans will be back instead of him being at risk of losing his job as there's a real disconnect between their AD and the fans but when they dip...
