    Twins/Vikings/Wild/Wolves Championship appearance drought tracker

Life is often an exercise in overcoming disappointment, forcing oneself to get out of bed every morning despite the Sisyphusean experience we may endure in our personal, work, or social lives. I for one appreciate the Minnesota sports teams preparing me for life as an adult (I was a sophomore...

Movies that hold up vs. those that don't

Funny enough, Blade Runner was a movie I'd never watched and it was one of the offerings on the flight home so I seized the opportunity to watch it based on the conversation here. It was the version with Ford's narration, which I appreciated, given the noise of the airplane and did enjoy it a...

All Things Immaculate Grid-related (MLB, NBA, NFL)

I know I'm diving back into territory from days ago, but that was a fun grid and one that brought a 6% score for me. I'm always bemused by the rarity percentages--a quick quiz, who do you imagine garnered the highest percent on the grid that day for me? Top Row: Ed Figueroa, Bert Blyleven, Thad...

All Things Immaculate Grid-related (MLB, NBA, NFL)

I went with. . . Mariners: Terry Bulling (.1%) Blue Jays: Hosken Powell (.3%) Rockies: the pride of New Ulm, Brian Raabe (.1%) The Rockies/Guardians was stumping me for a long time, but then finally recalled Jose Mesa played for both franchises. What really stumped me though, as far as a...

    All Things Movie/Documentary Reviews/Recommendations Thread

So, today I took my boy to see A Complete Unknown and I'll start with stating that was the tamest R rated movie I've ever seen, unless casual and frequent cigarette smoking now elicits such a rating. As you surmise, seems as if the studio may have pushed for it?, but no idea why a PG-13 rating...

Top Ten Movies I Watched in '24

Seems to me that movies originating with Netflix or Apple+ bring extreme negative reactions on IMDB (my only source, as I am too lazy to search up others) compared to theatrical releases. Backlash against the streaming services for one reason or another is my theory.

    Classic Country Thread

I’m a big fan of the outlaw country movement from the ‘70s and the modern version (in my head at least—Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell, Chris Stapleton, Tyler Childers) I’ll start with David Allen Coe singing this classic penned by John Prine and Steve Goodman:

No Twins category today, but opportunities for former Twins abound—I was able to use Olivia, Castino, Carew, Puck, and Nettles for various spots on the board.

I saw the R rating, then read through IMDB’s overview and it seemed everything potentially worrisome was marked mild, so I am leaning towards taking him to it-he will be able to zone in on all the bad words and cigarette smoking to let me know they are inappropriate. Was driving along the other...

Bucs: Mendoza-esque SS from the ‘80s who shares his given name with a MLB city (.005%) Snakes: Really tall relief pitcher who came over from Arizona and was quite effective (1%) 40 WAR: Big Sexy (.9%) Also found spots for Puck, Eduardo Escobar, and Lefty Carlton today.

Ope, an inquiry-do you think a 7 year old would be an appropriate audience for the movie? Would it be compelling enough for a kid who likes songs or might it drag along? I am formulating this romanticized version of my boy looking back fondly in his adult years about seeing the Dylan movie with...

All Things Immaculate Grid-related (MLB, NBA, NFL)

I had the following: Started career with Phils, established himself with Twins, and got a nice contract and few good years with Brewers in the ‘70s (2%) Ex-Yankee slugger who had a few games with Twins when baseball came back from ‘96 strike. Etched in my memory because I watched live as he was...
