Movies that hold up vs. those that don't

Fighting the stomach bug for a second day allowed me to dive into My Dinner with Andre today/tonight (had to split it in two; was falling asleep at the halfway point). My thoughts: * The first 50 minutes or so was pretty much given over to Andre talking and I found him to be a kook--a blowhard...

Was it fun? I found The Instigators to be fun, even if it’s a movie I will likely soon forget.

    Movies Everyone Has Seen-Except You

Haven't really made the connection between the film and Wilco's movie yet, but there certainly have been moments (particularly living overseas) where I felt like Chance/Chauncey--without the acclaim that he garnered ;-). Anytime I hear someone tell me they're experiencing imposter syndrome, I...

    Movies Everyone Has Seen-Except You

Home ill with a stomach ailment today, so I crossed another off my list by watching Being There. Loved it-so damn funny and clever and like Network, a theme/plot that translates very well 40 years later.

    Movies Everyone Has Seen-Except You

I finally conquered my white whale over the weekend, watching Lawrence of Arabia over the course of Friday and Saturday night and wrapping the last hour up this Sunday morning. A few thoughts: 1. I look forward to the next time I can watch it, hopefully in one sitting, and ideally in a movie...

Which lineup would you choose for the ultimate music festival?

When the draft ended and I looked at all our boards, I was shocked to realize no one had taken The Who, as were others. For myself, I think I just lost them on my board or somehow thought they had been picked (even though I was running the board). The Kinks were a huge oversight too. I wish I...

Which lineup would you choose for the ultimate music festival?

One wrinkle that I didn't mention was that the lineups would be sent out for votes among our co-workers to see who the ultimate winner would be and there's just not a lot of heavy metal heads in my workforce, so that could have definitely influenced the lack of metal in the mix.

Which lineup would you choose for the ultimate music festival?

During a recent work training, we had various wellness activities offered, and I led a music festival fantasy draft with eight other co-workers. The concept was simple and familiar to anyone who has participated in fantasy football draft--a snake draft for 11 rounds. Here were the chosen...

Movies that hold up vs. those that don't

Not only the stars--you'll also see Larry Tate from Bewitched, Mr. Hand from Fast Times. . ., and others who were all over episodic TV shows from the '60s to the '80s. For Rewatchables fans, there is a cornucopia of "that guys" in The Apartment.

All Things Immaculate Grid-related (MLB, NBA, NFL)

I would have had one of my better scores today, if not for the Blue Jays/Padres cube--I went with Dave Winfield, thinking he might have a really low number because the likes of Roberto Alomar, Fred McGriff, Joe Carter were more recent players, but I got stuck at 12%. For the Rangers/Padres...

All Things Immaculate Grid-related (MLB, NBA, NFL)

My perfect October nearly got clipped today by the dreaded Marlins (w/Reds) square, but I was able to stay alive by practicing (Edgar) Renteria. I think it's time for another "Holy Hell, I didn't know/don't remember that he played for that franchise!" with the Colt .45's/Astros on the docket...

All Things Immaculate Grid-related (MLB, NBA, NFL)

I stuck with only Twins and didn’t get nearly the sparkling score you did Ope: Phils: Jim Eisenreich (3%) HOF’er: Jim Kaat (4%) 1st Round: Tim Belcher (.2%) I had a lot of bitterness in my heart towards Belcher as a 10 year old fanatic, not able to comprehend why he wouldn’t sign as the overall...

Thanks for the kind words NYC. I'm 52 years old. It's a combinaton of: 1) Baseball Reference & SABR Project providing great research tools 2) A life-long love for the minutia of sports and prioritizing that minutia over more important things :) 3) As prog-rock progenitors Styx proclaimed, "Too...

Alright, I made a promise to have this happen before October and with that month on the doorstep, it's happening today. . ."Holy Hell, I didn't know/don't remember that he played for that franchise!" for the Colorado Rockies. I will note, since the Rockies debuted in 1993, I extended the window...

For some reason, I was convinced Vince Coleman had a twilight appearance with the Rays which was not accurate. When I turn my attention to the Rays, I have a feeling it's going to be a grand tour of '80s luminaries (including Doc). Like a Stones tour, but with much less zest than Jagger.
