Shooter: And word in coaching circles is that Tom Crean would love to have the Minnesota job.

Intrigued by the Arkansas St. guy. Young - 37 years old. Win at Memphis like you said, then at UAB as well.

No to Crean. No to Ryan Saunders. And no to an NBA assistant with no college experience as a HC. Smith and Medved, more Tier 2 guys but I'll accept those hats in the ring.

    Fire Ben Johnson

Drake played 7 guys. 3 guys went the full 45 MIN (including OT) See if they can keep it up all year.

A qualifying list of potential replacements

Right. It's just crazy that hire was made 4 years ago. And the results have actually been as terrible as the hire was. Hate to say that about Johnson, but it's just the truth.

A qualifying list of potential replacements

For those that are anti-Coyle, seems to me his hires have all been pretty well reasoned and have turned out OK for the most part. The Johnson one was an anomaly and really confusing in my mind. But if you look at all of the others: Fleck - History of Success Motzko - History of Success Dawn...

A qualifying list of potential replacements

Yeah I suppose I won't fully disagree there, but McCollum is sure off to a nice start in D1 after dominating at the D2 level. No doubt he can coach. Can he do everything required at the Big 10 level? Not sure but I'd be willing to take that shot right now. We'll see how the year finishes out...

McCollum would be the Fleck type hire. Didn't think we had a shot to get 'em, but we did. Bring him in! (Wouldn't mind if he performed a little better than Fleck though)

I'm not opposed haha. She would never but it's an interesting name.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him take a D3 gig or even a high school. Basketball is still pretty honest at those levels. Agreed on the burnout and I don't think he wants any more of what the high level D1 looks like right now.

    Ben Johnson is a Disaster

Hopefully that new coach can change minds and bring this program back. I'm confident it can happen. The hire is just so important. Invest in a coach and give him/her resources. This program can be solid!

Besides the Gophers who do you cheer for?

Utah, Colorado St. and San Diego State All MN guys coaching those squads. Supporting MN.

I'd put him at the top of the list. I think gets that Iowa job in the next couple years when Fran bails.

Will Wade? Guy can coach no doubt, but we aren't touching him I wouldn't imagine.

True with the connection. Richey has taken 'em a little further there. Got the NCAA W last year.

A qualifying list of potential replacements

I'd imagine Medved is the most likely replacement. He's not a home run, but he's solid IMO. I like Richey a lot from Furman but his background really looks like a Southeast guy. Can't imagine this would be the job he moves for. Dutcher would still be the home run, even at age 65.

    Fire Ben Johnson

I agree. I think it would be one of the other assistants currently on staff.

Shama: If there is a change in Golden Gophers basketball head coaches after this season, St. Thomas’ John Tauer should be a level one candidate.

Tauer can flat out coach. Maybe folks want a splashier name, but this guy would be solid. But yes, still unlikely on both sides.
