Five Guys On A Shortlist: If the U Decides Change Is Needed, Aim High & Don't Be Cheap With That Big Ten Cash

Someone like that is Mark Byington, in his first year at Vandy. He was pretty successful at JMU his last couple years.

Five Guys On A Shortlist: If the U Decides Change Is Needed, Aim High & Don't Be Cheap With That Big Ten Cash

I thought of an interesting candidate this morning - Chris Collins. It’s pretty lateral for him, but getting out of the academic restrictions at Northwestern might be appealing.

    Ben Johnson is a Disaster

As would probably two-thirds of P5 ADs - even a school like MSU has to at least be on the lookout in case Izzo decides to retire. A lot of business traditionally gets done at the Final Four - it’s also the convention for the NABC. I was a volunteer when it was here in 2019, and saw firsthand...

Currently ahead of VT, Syr, BC, and Seton Hall. They are within striking distance...

When will Gophers men’s basketball team get its first Big Ten win?

The percentages on the rightmost column are the predicted chances of victory. There's only one game where they're currently favored, and that's a 53% chance. That being said, Monday is one of the better shots...

Five Guys On A Shortlist: If the U Decides Change Is Needed, Aim High & Don't Be Cheap With That Big Ten Cash

I've been thinking this, too. He does have a potential talent drain coming after this year. However, not sure MN is a step up. Sure, MN might - might - be able to up his salary a bit, but the NIL situation isn't appreciably better here vs. Marquette (Marquette can throw everything at hoops). I'd...

    Ben Johnson is a Disaster

Just being pedantic here, but they probably won't be able to name the new coach until at least the second weekend of the NCAA tournament. This is true whether they fire CBJ now or later - the good coaching candidates have jobs to do through that period (unless you go after currently unemployed...

Five Guys On A Shortlist: If the U Decides Change Is Needed, Aim High & Don't Be Cheap With That Big Ten Cash

I see this a lot and am just asking a question here - is this actually true? Yes, the B10 has more resources, but also spends well over half the pie on football. Big East? Smaller pie, but can spend virtually all of it on hoops. This is not true for B12 or ACC

***OFFICIAL PURDUE AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

There were a total of 59 possessions last night. 61 points = 1.04 points per possession. Anything over 1 is ok. When adjusted for the strength of the opponent, it comes out to 1.14 PPP which would have beaten every opponent except MSU and PU. Defensively, PU scored at 1.38 PPP. I don't have...

***OFFICIAL PURDUE AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

The problem last night was defense - the offensive efficiency was actually good enough to win most games. Specifically, the gophers are struggling with 3P defense in the first 3 conference games.

***OFFICIAL PURDUE AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Just pointing out the deja-vu nature of the conversation... If this was at Mackey, it'd be +10

***OFFICIAL PURDUE AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

The conference home opener against MSU was a 5-point spread, too. Purdue is a very good 3P shooting team, but takes only an average amount of them. They are good at drawing fouls and not committing them. Right around average rebounders and slightly below average in both committing and causing...

Shooter: And word in coaching circles is that Tom Crean would love to have the Minnesota job.

True, even knowing he was 71-91 in the B10 over 9 years, despite having multiple NBA players on his rosters. At a place like Indiana, I think everyone on this board could coach to that record...

With non-conference season behind us, the Gophers are?…

Last year might have been the worst thing that could have happened to the program. The 9-11 record was a mirage. The lower half of the league last year was as bad as it's been, and the Gophers really only got victories against those bottom-dwellers. It made it look a lot better than it really...

U of M basketball scheduling (Men & Women)

This is muddled. I don't know why you pick Ill St and not Bradley, Ind St and not Valpo or Evansville, etc. They're all MVC. Similarly, you have a few Summit League schools, but not Horizon or MAC which each have a lot of midwest schools. Lastly, unless the trip to the west coast conference...

***MORGAN ST AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Torvik has stats for close 2 (at the rim) and far 2 (midrange). Here is last year at Charlotte - he shot a lot of far 2s for the taste of an analytics aficionado, but it was "only" at a 1.3:1 ratio far:close : Here he is so far this year - now it's about a 2.5:1 far:close ratio. While 41% is...

U of M basketball scheduling (Men & Women)

It’s hard to get those wins when you don’t even play them (outside of the early B10 games they were forced to). I think there’s was one freaking game.

All Things 2024-25 College Basketball Coach Fired/Hired/Retired Thread

I haven't read his comments, but Miami was one of the poster children for a school just going out and buying a roster. This is not the same situation as a principled guy like Bennett.

Actually, he did say he’s afraid of playing UST. Like, directly
