They've had remarkably good luck with coaches over the years although Jay Wright probably was the best. They were due for some poorer luck and the fired coach was there for only 3 years.

He played one year at a Florida junior college and came off the bench there but was a good shooting and scoring guard in that role, especially for a freshman. Unfortunately, he was surprisingly terrible during the infrequent occasions he played during his one year here.

Maybe Hopkins should consider Minnesota. We're used to "disappointing effort, disappointing outcomes, and pitiful, embarrassing seasons." Hopkins was a high-ranking recruit (#33 RSCI). Looks like he was hurt most of the year, though; only played 3 games. He did well in those 3 games.
