Wow - Marcus: Johnson is arguably at a point in his tenure when he might also need for people to be patient with him.

Maybe? I don't think star tribune articles dictate which coaches get hired. I think it's way smaller factor than you and others imply. I agreed with Coyle (and still do) that landing elite recruits is an essential part of winning basketball games. I think Ben is a solid in-game coach but...

Wow - Marcus: Johnson is arguably at a point in his tenure when he might also need for people to be patient with him.

This all he said about diversity before hiring Ben btw: The Gophers have not hired a head coach of color since Coyle was hired in May 2016, and that will be a factor in this search process. “We’re committed to having a very diverse pool of coaches to look at,” Coyle said. “… We want to cast a...

Wow - Marcus: Johnson is arguably at a point in his tenure when he might also need for people to be patient with him.

Where did he say this? He said they would have diverse candidates, as do most jobs. Not that 'diversity would be part of the hiring process'. What does that even mean? Right wing bobos is the only way to describe people who come up with conspiracies despite evidence to the contrary. In this...

Wow - Marcus: Johnson is arguably at a point in his tenure when he might also need for people to be patient with him.

"We look around the region and the number of kids that aren't here. We are going to get them here," said Coyle, who also had Brian Dutcher (San Diego State), Craig Smith (Utah State), Dennis Gates (Cleveland State) and Ben Jacobson (Northern Iowa) among others on his radar. 'Over five years at...

Wow - Marcus: Johnson is arguably at a point in his tenure when he might also need for people to be patient with him.

This completely ignores the 'one of us' factor and the failure of prior head coaches (and now Ben too) to keep the top basketball kids home. Ben was the lead recruiter for Coffey and Jarvis and both said he was a key factor for them staying here. Not to mention Hurt and others mentioning they...

Wow - Marcus: Johnson is arguably at a point in his tenure when he might also need for people to be patient with him.

I don't think that's true. I know our team isn't good but they play entirely different than last year due to personnel. Same thing with Wisconsin this year compared to last year. I think you get the players that you can and try mold a system around them. Maybe if you're an elite program you can...

Wow - Marcus: Johnson is arguably at a point in his tenure when he might also need for people to be patient with him.

I don't think having a culture and program with an identity is possible anymore it's all year to year. Not to mention we've had 2 winning conference seasons this century. Coyle/regents better pony up or this program will be in the 15-18th territory for the rest of time.

    Buzz Williams...

Odds that the board will be disappointed by the hire and then delude themselves into thinking it will work are near 100%.

    Craig Smith

Do you Dennis Gates would be as successful here as he is at Missouri? Do you think there's a reason he declined to interview for the job?

    Craig Smith

"The biggest challenge for Smith was Utah's lack of NIL support. Sources said the program's resources rank near the bottom of the Big 12."

All Things 2024-25 College Basketball Coach Fired/Hired/Retired Thread

4 straight head coaches fired by Utah. They should make a BYU like hire with big NIL backers or they'll be in the same position in 4-6 years. Edit: Rumor is Andre Miller or Alex Jensen taking over with big NIL backing. I could see that working out for them.

    Fire Ben Johnson

What is the potential of this program and where does it rank amongst teams in the conference?

    How many wins?

Excuses that Dawson takes up the majority of the NIL budget? What does that even mean
  14. Johnnyboy18

    How many wins?

Receipts that the best player by far takes up the majority of their NIL budget? Are you dumb? I know the answer but think logically it's not hard.
  15. Johnnyboy18

    How many wins?

Garcia takes up 70%+ of the NIL budget.

    How many wins?

How many losses would Kansas have if they didn't pay $10 million dollars for their roster?

    Fire Ben Johnson

Does anyone think hiring Craig Smith now or 4 years ago would make the program different than it is now? If so why? He couldn't win at Utah why would he win here with worse or at best similar resources? Pay for a big time coach or fight for 15th for the rest of time.

Neal: Moving forward with Ben Johnson is the only option for Gophers men’s basketball

Denver didn't fire their coach he was put on leave until the end of the season.

Neal: Moving forward with Ben Johnson is the only option for Gophers men’s basketball

I don't care, I'm telling you what the results are 90%+ going to be because i root for the team no matter who the coach is. The University might care about the buyout however which costs them money.

Neal: Moving forward with Ben Johnson is the only option for Gophers men’s basketball

Hilarious listing examples from 15+ years ago. Especially 2 coaches who are quitting/quit because of the nonsense going on with NIL. Different ball game today. Go look at the coaching carousel the last 2 years in P5. The teams that made changes for mid-major coaches without significant NIL...
