Scoggins: Word is Mark Coyle wants to build Gophers men’s basketball. What does it mean for Ben Johnson?

What does that even mean? Every year of Minnesota basketball will be year 0 until they can afford to keep good players from year to year.

    Fire Ben Johnson

Utah's hiring and firing were fueled by big time boosters who wanted him hired 4 years ago. They didn't contribute to the basketball program and they weren't good as a result (huge shocker). If i were a Utah fan I'd be pumped for the cash that can be used to buy players.

Scoggins: Word is Mark Coyle wants to build Gophers men’s basketball. What does it mean for Ben Johnson?

I disagree but I don't care enough to convince anyone. I'm glad Coyle realizes you can't keep hiring coaches with 0 changes in infrastructure or they'll continue to fail.

Scoggins: Word is Mark Coyle wants to build Gophers men’s basketball. What does it mean for Ben Johnson?

The 1st 2 years are a result in the lack of investment (cheap hire and behind in NIL infrastructure). The last 2 years have been largely in line with the mediocrity of the program the last 25 years. Is a player leaving for more money in May after saying he's coming back not an example of lack of...

Scoggins: Word is Mark Coyle wants to build Gophers men’s basketball. What does it mean for Ben Johnson?

I'm glad Coyle realizes that the program has an investment problem and not a coach problem.

Seth Davis: Ben Johnson has done an incredible job with this team. One of the elite coaches in one of the toughest jobs in America.

Don't really have a point. Just that perception that fans have of both programs are different than reality

If you average out the football and basketball teams B1G conference standings the last 2 years they are nearly identical.

I'm sure the teams that miss out on the Big Ten tournament or played/play on weakling Wednesday would beg to differ.

Currently if he drops down a level or 2 in coaching, I'm pretty sure he could get a division 1 job. If he was fired after the 1st 2 years I would doubt it. If I was the AD I would have fired him after the 2nd year for rolling with Samuels, Carrington and Henley as the 2 guard options but that...

If there was a coach out there that would donate his entire salary to NIL, I'd think the results would match up with that pretty closely if they are close to an average coach!

What B1G programs have been worse than ours the last 2 years that Ben has been here? Most coaches are fired when the wins decline year over year. If they lose out I could see a move being made but otherwise I doubt it. Like I said I don't really care either way because the program is what it is...

The worst program hasn't finished last the last 2 years. I can get down with that, great point.

A DEI apologist for posting that Anthony Grant and Dawn Staley are the 1st African American coaches to win an award in 10+ years? Your above post would make sense if on the same thread he wasn't saying other African American coaches should be fired or won't work out but nonetheless he is...

You're right Bob. He probably couldn't even get a job for a varsity high school team at this point. I'm sure if the U replaces him, the U will soar to new heights and definitely won't still be a bottom tier B1G basketball school. Looking forward to it.
