***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT UCLA AT ROSE BOWL STADIUM IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Kind of like when Maryland had the most athletic team in the Big Ten?

Quarterback sneak. One thing I don't understand

Ball is oblong, so one chip in the middle wouldn't do it. But two chips placed in the same position on both halves of the ball would tell you exactly where every part of the ball is at any time. For sports with a spherical ball, one in the center would do the trick.

Quarterback sneak. One thing I don't understand

We've had plenty of QBs who can make wobbles out of spirals more effectively than any chip possibly could.

Quarterback sneak. One thing I don't understand

I agree that it's not a silver bullet that would solve answer every question (including the situation you are describing). But there are lots of plays where every camera angle loses sight of the ball when it goes into the scrum, when they pull everyone off the ball is on the goal line and in the...

Quarterback sneak. One thing I don't understand

Whether or not the ball tracks possession, being able to know the precise position on the field of the ball would be a huge benefit in replay. You could know with certainly whether and when the ball broke the plane of the goal line, and (for first down calls) the precise extent of forward progress.

    2024-2025 Gopher Soccer

Huge win. Last night was a sports rollercoaster for me. Had the Gophers on my phone. We were up 1-0. Went outside to play some baseball with my son and came back in to find us up 3-0. Looked away from my phone to make my kids a late dinner, and saw we had given up two quick ones. Then, pissed...

The Athletic: What are the most dangerous trap games for college football’s Top 25 teams? (23. Illinois - November 2 vs Minnesota)

I've always questioned the existence of trap games. Sometimes big upsets happen. But is there any evidence to suggest that a big underdog is more likely to over-perform the analytical models when "trap game" circumstances (like the week before a big game) are present? If so, I've never seen it.

Big Ten TV schedule and tipoff times to be announced at 2 p.m.

Weird that the major networks didn't find more of the games in our gauntlet of a non-conference schedule compelling.

    USC = the new Nebraska?

Even if the argument has merit (his doesn't), whining about the calls after a loss makes it sound like a coach is trying to distract from their own shortcomings. If there is a bad call, let the fans and pundits do the whining.

I'm worried PJ will become a thrill seeking degenerate play calling gambler now

That's an understatement. If I'm going to criticize PJ for making decisions I disagree with when they don't work out, seems only fair that I not second guess decisions that do work out.

Where does the USC win rank in the Gophers' P.J. Fleck era?

Ill never forget that 2018 game. I can understand Penn State being number 1 because that was a home game so I saw it in person, but 2018 is easily the most fun I've had watching a gopher road game on TV. My group drove to campus for the impromptu pep rally meeting the team at the practice field.

Quarterback sneak. One thing I don't understand

If Jason Kelce were our center, the ball would have broken the plane before he even snapped the ball.

Quarterback sneak. One thing I don't understand

Decades ago they put chips in the Fox Tracer hockey pucks that were being slapped around at 100 mph, so I would think it could work and I like the idea.

    KC and AK

Kind of like when Seattle signed Blair Walsh. They saw first hand the kind of carnage he could cause when he missed the shorty in the playoffs that ended our season (though worth pointing out that our offense didn't put the ball in the end zone once, so Walsh literally scored all of our points...

I'm worried PJ will become a thrill seeking degenerate play calling gambler now

I often think PJ is too risk averse, but I said to my group before the play that I thought we should kick it. 3 was closer to a sure thing than 6. If we had kicked it, and then USC got to field goal range in less than a minute with no timeouts, I'd have blamed the defense and/kickoff team for...

    Buckyville

I liked the year they lost to Arizona State, and then spent the whole season pretending they had won.

Quarterback sneak. One thing I don't understand

+1 Kind of like when we used to run the Green Line wildcat, and would leave the starting QB in. The defense had to leave in the personnel to defend our base offense.

So do we love PJ again?

Absolutely. Punting obviously makes sense in many fourth down situations, and I can accept that there can be little enough time you'd rather kneel out the clock than chuck up a hail mary. My thoughts relate more to 2-3 minutes at the end if the half. In that situation, I would rather a team...
