Favorite Friday: Who is your favorite Gophers men’s basketball player?

Add Michael Thompson and I am in! Also liked Eric Harris. Man was he lights out on defense!

Hallman: Black coaches' shelf life is much shorter & benefit of the doubt much less practiced as opposed to their White counterpart

It was meant to make light of melatonin, which is often used as a sleep aid. If that is what you meant, then it is funny. Some games did make one sleepy. https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements-melatonin/art-20363071

Johnson: “I have some personal pride that I’ll be the only minority coach in the league. I take that with a badge of honor."

Even if one thinks he's the worst coach ever, he's brought in good, solid student athletes. It's okay to wish someone well whether here or elsewhere.

Johnson: “I have some personal pride that I’ll be the only minority coach in the league. I take that with a badge of honor."

No matter what happens here, you're a Gopher! Always have been. Always will be!

Poll: Should Mark Coyle give Ben Johnson a 5th year?

If that is what we are getting then I am on board. We need someone who will take a wholistic approach. Much like coach Fleck. That and support/ infrastructure. Maybe I am just tired of an endless merry-go-round of coaches and expecting different results.

Poll: Should Mark Coyle give Ben Johnson a 5th year?

The point is a coach alone will not significantly elevate this team. At best we'd have a good season followed by a rebuild. We won't get an Izzo, Calipari, etc. Even if the AD could cut the check, they would see that the support just isn't there. Obviously just my opinion.

Poll: Should Mark Coyle give Ben Johnson a 5th year?

I would add that the "new" coach will either have to be the kind of coach that can pull in boosters/ investors that will add to the NIL purse, or the program (Athletic Department) will need to somehow figure out a way increase NIL money. If not, we could be looking at starting over every season/...

Former Gopher Kim Royston named HC at Cretin

Thanks! It's been like 3 to 5 years since I've been to a prep game. Hope to make a couple this fall.

Former Gopher Kim Royston named HC at Cretin

    Isn't Totino Grace doing well?

Former Gopher Kim Royston named HC at Cretin

Things have definitely changed. There was a time when both Cretin and St. Thomas Academy could line up over 100 players. Yes some of them were underclassmen who would only see the field in a extreme emergency (injuries), but it was still impressive to see them line up. Especially homecoming...

Former Gopher Kim Royston named HC at Cretin

Yes. St. Marks, Nativity, St. Columba, St. Peter Claver, and others I missed. I didn't name St. Agnes, nor St. Bernards (No longer has a school?) because they were/ are k-12 schools. I am sure there are others in St. Paul that I missed. I assume De LaSalle gets many of the Minneapolis athletes?

Former Gopher Kim Royston named HC at Cretin

Question for the board. Does Cretin still pull athletes many/ any from Minneapolis and St. Paul? It's been a while since I've followed Minneapolis and St. Paul city conferences. At one time Cretin, Hill-Murray, and St. Thomas used to be able to cherry pick players. Not sure those areas produce...

Former Gopher Kim Royston named HC at Cretin

From what I understand, Cretin tries to make the school affordable. Not sure this impacts a coaches salary. Out of left field. I wonder if some dollars that may have gone to Cretin are now going to the University of St. Thomas. The step up to division one has to be expensive. With that said, I...
