Mark Coyle: The Gophers' Michael Scott

I know nothing about the Indiana situation but one thing going in Coyle's favor is competing against Beth Goetz. Unless Iowa has a lot more money than we do, we can compete on a coaching hire. I've met Beth and she's a pleasant person but she's more Coyle than Coyle. My impression was that...

    Dollars

If Coyle is serious about building a top tier program it's going to take an investment of $12M-15M/year. At least $5M for the coaching staff. At least $5M for the roster. $2M for the first couple of years for buyouts (coming and going). $1M in non admin misc costs. Let's say Fleck is...

Lakers lost. I think they are our best shot. I don't see the Warriors playing any worse than the wolves down the stretch.

I have the wolves at 11-4 the rest of the way (assuming good health). They will lose one of the gimmes because they are the wolves and three of the tough games. At that pace that’s a lot of ground to make up. One of the 2-5 teams would have to really slump or the warriors would have to have a...

Marcus Q&A with Coyle: "I’ve started to have conversations with people today...I’ve had conversations with people about who is interested and not"

Completely agree. Coyle was, is and will be the problem for as long as he is here. He's a classic CYA administrator. He's been "doing things the right way" and "following a process" for years while he gets lapped by everybody else. His major coaching hires are sub mediocre (even the golden...

Reusse: Unlike the Gophers’ coaching situation, the solution for Williams Arena is simple: Blow up The Barn

I was in Assembly Hall years ago (not during a game) and the stands shoot up into the roof at what looks like almost a ninety degree angle. Really weird. I was in Welsh-Ryan for a game before the remodel. Really strange configuration and a total dump. I've also been to Carver-Hawkeye arena...

Mark Coyle hosting Friday press conference "expected to last about 10 minutes"

Maybe he'll announce Steve Kerr as the new hire.

The wolves are healthy, they have depth, they've figured out rotations and they are actually moving the ball. They are playing at the same level as last year. Unfortunately, they may still end up in the play in. They are too far behind teams 2-5 and the Warriors are also playing great ball...

    New Coach Short List

Saunders is a nice guy with a nice name and no personality. He could barely complete a sentence. He has no recruiting or transfer connections. He was in way over his head as an NBA HC and would be equally over his head as the gophers HC.

    New Coach Short List

Generally teams hire the opposite of what they had before. Pitino had personality but wasn't one of us. Ben was one of us but didn't have the personality to sell the program. I think Coyle goes splashy this time, if he has the money.

Where does Gophers Rodney Williams rank on the Big Ten All-Time best dunkers list?

Williams certainly had the athletic ability to make it in the NBA. Not sure why it never happened. I remember when he shut down Harrison Barnes in a game against UNC, who was one of the elite players in college hoops and a future first round draft choice. Whatever happened to him?

    Where will Ben land?

I doubt there is language in his contract that says he can't bring any of his current (former) players to a new program. I think Pitino took Mashburn Jr. with him. Not sure how much of a market there is for Asuma, Mitchell, Grove and the three recruits.

    COYLE FIRES BEN JOHNSON!!!!!!

Johnson had to go. The situation was untenable. As I've said multiple times before, the new U president, who has the lowest public profile of any major university president I've ever seen, needs to send Coyle packing as well. Major college sports are professional sports with one or two less...

All Things 2024-25 Minnesota Timberwolves In-Season Thread

Last night's game was almost boring. The wolves did what they were supposed to do against a weak opponent at home. The team is peaking at about the right time. The game at Denver will be an interesting test of their resurgence because it will be against a high quality opponent on the road.

True. However, the Warriors play at home for 11 of their remaining 17 games at home. Most of their tougher opponents are at Chase.

All Things 2024-25 Minnesota Timberwolves In-Season Thread

Very sloppy win. Much better than a well played loss. I've been peeking ahead at the schedule and the warriors' schedule over the next couple of weeks is just about as soft as the wolves' schedule. I'm not assuming the wolves are going to move into the top six. Those four or five...

    Fire Ben Johnson

The column was a PR plant by Coyle. It’s been his job to get the money all along and he fell way behind. He needs to leave with Johnson.

Seth Davis: Ben Johnson has done an incredible job with this team. One of the elite coaches in one of the toughest jobs in America.

People live here and enjoy it for many reasons outside of gopher hoops. Take a look at the records four years ago before you say it was preposterous to put us below NU, Rutgers and PSU. Nobody is cheering Davis' comments. Just acknowledging reality. No self hate involved. The reason Coyle...
