All Things Minnesota at UCLA at Rose Bowl Stadium October 12, 2024

Actually, it's LA more than California. My wife lived in the Santa Monica area for a number of years, she understands the dialect. We joke about it. And no, I doubt that google uses it. LOL. Still it's fun to hear. Just confusing if you don't expect it. Where ever you go in the US you will find...

All Things Minnesota at UCLA at Rose Bowl Stadium October 12, 2024

Quick illustration: I googled Rose Bowl to Santa Monica (basically the beach) and the easy answer is 27 miles. However, I saw driving time estimates from 30 minutes to 2 hours. Reality is probably 45-50 minutes. Traffic in LA can be crazy at times. Also, when they give directions in LA they...

All Things Minnesota at UCLA at Rose Bowl Stadium October 12, 2024

I stayed at the RitzCarlton Pasadena for a week back in the late 90s. I had a Cottage Suite, just beautiful, great hotel!! It's called the Langham now, not sure what it costs, probably pretty spendy, but if you want a luxurious experience and if this is anything close to what it was like when I...

Week #13 Field of 68 projection with a focus on "record vs. the field"

Yea, my Ducks are struggling a lot with injuries right now and all season for that matter. If they get healthy and finish strong they will get in, but that's a big "if" right now. Altman's teams traditionally start slow and finish strong, so I still have hope.

    Michigan St. Tuesday

Why "Wednesday" and Saturday? Why not Thursday and Saturday? Wednesday makes it a long trip with plenty of dead time, it's only about an hour flight from Seattle to Eugene.

The Athletic: Ranking Big Ten football transfer portal (10. Minnesota)

Given that Oregon is on a quarter system, I'm curious how you think this impacts portal transfers.

    Who is Everyones Other Team?

Anyone playing the Huskies, probably Oregon State the most. Especially since they got left out in the cold during the conference reshuffle.

Miami TE Cam McCormick granted ninth year of eligibility

He does have his bachelors and masters degrees. He's always struck me as a good person, I believe he has a hearing problem that he's had to overcome as well. He's just had a ton of injuries, without those I think he'd be playing on Sundays.

    All Things Weather

Got our first snow of the year yesterday. Not much about an inch, followed by around a quarter of an inch of freezing rain. Stopped most everything here in Eugene. Current temp at 10 am is 22 F. Should be over by Wednesday. Then back in the 50s. Women's basketball game is still going to be...

    Who will replace Saban?

The difference between your trip and the Gophers trip is that they will be on a charter and I think it's a little over one hour flight from Minneapolis to Bloomington. That's a very short flight.

    Who will replace Saban?

I think this mileage thing is way over played. Before I retired, I'd fly from PDX to Newark, leaving my office at noon, catch a 1 pm flight arrive in Newark around 9:30PM. Next day I'd have 9 am, 11am, 1pm and 3 pm meetings in Manhattan, then I'd catch a 6 PM flight out of Newark back to...

Why does Minnesota not have a Bowl Game?

https://weather.com/travel/news/2023-11-22-worst-weather-airports-us Thought that perhaps a little update on worst airports for weather delays would be appropriate here, especially since someone is using a Fox service as some sort of authority. I see Dallas Fort Worth made the bottom 10 list...

Why does Minnesota not have a Bowl Game?

One of the things I think the PAC 12 did right was holding Championship games in Las Vegas. It's a great place for sporting events and a great draw for fans. Nothing like watching March Madness in Vegas, great weather, great sports bars.

    Better Fan Experience

LOL... I think at Autzen they have three different check points as you enter the stadium. First, is for bottles reminding people that any bottles brought into the stadium have to be empty and plastic, they also send anyone with a backpack or purse to the second check point to have them examined...

    The Final Straw

Oregon, Wa, USC and UCLA are officially in the Big 10 Aug 2, 2024. PAC 12 does standard distributions to all 12 teams this year.

    Better Fan Experience

For what it's worth, Autzen is similar in size, a bit larger and typical attendance is 102% of capacity. Getting into the stadium runs quite smoothly, easy and fast, someone might want to see what the differences are between how it's handled at the two stadiums. As for Autzen, fans don't sit...

    The Final Straw

I think it will be much more difficult to go undefeated in the expanded Big 10. Example: Michigan plays, Texas, Oregon, USC at home and Washington and Ohio State on the road next year. Going undefeated with that schedule won't be easy.

Can the Gophers find success in the new Big Ten?

You are correct Nike sponsored Steve in 1974 to the tune of $5000. Steve graduated from the University of Oregon in 1973, so this was after he left Oregon. I don't think they sponsored athletes that were enrolled at the University of Oregon. FYI: I did know Steve on a very casual basis, played...

Can the Gophers find success in the new Big Ten?

I don't think Phil Knight was giving to Oregon in the 60s or the 70s. Nike wasn't founded until 1970 (yes it was called "Blue Ribbon Sports" before that). And Nike didn't go public until 1980. I think it was some time after 1980, before Phil started pumping money into the U of O. I think the...
