All Things Gophers Basketball Class of 2022 Recruiting Thread

Watson, Payne, Lee, Omot, Carrington and others don’t have the existing relationships with coaches/schools that the ones that committed so far had (and what we hear Tre has with MSU). Ben and the U are in the same spot and should have a great chance to get this group, yet I’m concerned.

GopherHole Q&A: Tre Holloman Talks Gophers, Spartans and Recruiting

It’s good in the sense that he did not pull a Cam Heide (and we’ll see what happens with Watson this next week), but I agree we don’t want his recruitment dragging on forever. Mostly because they would have to move to a Plan B quickly.

Worried about this one. Think Ben and staff need to start working hard on out of state kids and plan B MN kids like BJ Omot and Pharrell Payne and at least get a few of them to stay.

GopherHole Q&A: Tre Holloman Talks Gophers, Spartans and Recruiting

I thought I had read that Chatman wants to be lead guard/PG in college.

GopherHole Q&A: Tre Holloman Talks Gophers, Spartans and Recruiting

The staff is still putting in major effort with Tre so they must think they are still in it (and they probably are), but I wonder at one point do they start making Chatman the priority (can’t imagine Chatman and Holloman will choose to play at the same school) and go to Plan B for 2022.

GopherHole Q&A: Tre Holloman Talks Gophers, Spartans and Recruiting

I think Ben is selling it the right way, it’s just hard to tell if Tre is buying it and wanting to be that leader for this recruiting class - at least from this interview. I’ve always thought we had a good shot at Tre because I could see him as a Carter Coughlin-type leader that believed and got...

All Things Tre Holloman Recruitment Thread (Class of 2022)

Especially as he potentially sits behind other lead guards at MSU for the first few years. I know they want Tre badly, but he’s not a need for them like at MN.

All Things Tre Holloman Recruitment Thread (Class of 2022)

While fun to follow, you can tell it doesn’t mean anything. One day he’s posting/liking about MN, the next day it’s MSU. I don’t think anybody truly knows what Tre is going to do except Tre. I think the slight moving of goalposts that I have seen in other places makes me a little less confident...

All Things Tre Holloman Recruitment Thread (Class of 2022)

He is 100% a leader, which is why I want him on the roster badly. This team would be a winner with him leading the way. There’s just some things lately that make me think Izzo has convinced him he’ll be that leader at MSU instead.

Johnson on Ihnen: "I had to fight to keep him for almost two weeks. His people were telling him you got all these options."

Absolutely. It was going to be Thorson over Ed every single time. That’s Ben’s guy.

All Things Tre Holloman Recruitment Thread (Class of 2022)

I’m getting the same feeling. Love the effort Ben and staff are putting in with Tre, but looking at social media and reading between the lines with some things that have been said on other sites, MSU seems like the safe bet.

I guess this probably sums it up well for me. I get worried when I see people moving the goalposts already when it comes to this class. Will it be a perfect class? No. We already lost top targets. But I do have high expectations for how he does with this class (and even higher in 2023).

I’ll also add that it doesn’t help that the school 3 hours south is doing what we want to do with a new coach. They got the local lead guard and got a high ranked MN player to go with him. If Holloman goes to MSU, I worry about losing Watson to a school like ISU (they are all in on him as well)...

All Things Gophers Basketball Class of 2022 Recruiting Thread

Love to see what Whalen is doing now and think Ben will be there as well with the instate kids. I struggle with knowing it takes awhile to build relationships and get kids bought in, but also being impatient and knowing the high level MN players (besides Holloman) are right there for the taking...

    Make It Happen, Ben!

That is what has been reported elsewhere. While Mitchell is a long shot right now, I don’t read that as they are definitely “out.” If neither decide on coming to the U, and the way things have gone - it may be a good bet as a lot of things haven’t gone as planned, I wonder where they turn to...

Hopefully they can close the deal with Manley & Mitchell in the next few weeks. They need them both. Can't imagine what the back up option is if both decide to go pro and play in Europe.

Agreed with this all. It seems pretty purposeful at this point that all lead guard focus is on Tre unless he tells them no. And IF that happens, only then will we see what their back up plan has been.

Maybe, but I kind of hate that. That means you punted on getting a true PG two years in a row. All of a sudden you are in year 3 depending on a true freshman. Of course, it could be a multi-year transfer I suppose. If Tre signs with MN, I could see them looking for a kid in the portal as a...

Yes. Ben is a smart guy. I have to imagine Heide was a top target, but the staff knew they were playing from behind with him. Getting someone like Knight from Texas would help with the loss of Heide. I still am curious what their back up plan is if Tre chooses MSU. Lipsey and King obviously...
