Lou Holtz at Minnesota - 1984-1985

I guess it's all about perspective. Gopher fans would not be too happy with four wins next year but back then it was cause for euphoria!! Hope is one of the very best things in life - if you do not have a championship team if you can sell hope you can still generate a lot of interest. Today...

Those were some fun times indeed!! I would have kept the letter too!

God bless PJ Fleck. He is not just a flash in the pan but is building a quality program that is sustainable. A strong defense is coupled with ball control with a good offensive line and solid running game. To get to the next level they will need to be able to throw and be a little more...

What I remember is the Gophers were driving in OSU territory I think it was about the 20-30 yard line and Foggie got hurt and had to sit out a play. Alan Holt came in and they ran it right into the teeth of the OSU defense into LB's Chris Spielman and Eric Kumerow and it got stuffed. Perhaps...

That's a nice list of future Gophers you played against. You must have played in the old Lake Conference which at the time was the best division in high school MN. Those players all had some good success with the Gophers!

Thanks!! If you remember, some of the Holtz staff went on to coach with Barry Alvarez as he was building that program. In hindsight, it would have been nice to go all-in on Alvarez if they could get him. Bobby Ross was also interested in the job and he went on to win a NC at Georgia Tech a few...

Lou Holtz at Minnesota - 1984-1985

Those years were some of the most exciting times for the Gopher football team that I have ever witnessed. We have had a number of coaches since then, but never have things been so exciting or have I been so optimistic for the future. It was very fun to be a Gopher fan -- until it crashed and...

    All Things Mitch Leidner

They used to run the QB sneak/QB draw like 25 times a game when he was here. lol. Mitch was a pretty tough kid though and he gave his best. Can't ask for more than that. If you want someone better than go out and recruit someone better or coach him up. That's on the coaches....

Sean Tyler RB from Western Michigan to transfer to Gophers!!!!!

You never know with injuries and such. I am certain Potts is trying to get back to where he was before the injury - if he could do that he could still be very successful here!

Sean Tyler RB from Western Michigan to transfer to Gophers!!!!!

I feel a little sorry for Western Michigan as we have poached their coach a few years ago and now we are taking three of their best players!! I know you felt we were good at RB from exchanges we have had on here but I feel a lot better about our RB situation now with this new Sean Tyler...

All Things P.J. Fleck Rumor Mill Thread - Listed as Candidate for Other Jobs

Gopher fans should take it as a compliment that other big name teams are considering PJ Fleck as their coach. While I do not want him to leave, I guess it beats the alternative that NOBODY would want him!! Reply Report Edit Delete

TCU - More like STINK-A- ROO

It was an awful game - Georgia had far superior talent, but TCU looked miserable with defensive players out of position. This allowed huge chunk plays and the embarrassing result. I had hoped it would be close, but I turned it off at halftime because I knew where this one was going very early on.

1976-1977 Gopher Basketball -- My favorite team

They had guys like Butch Lee and Bo Ellis who went on to play in the NBA. Al McGuire was the coach, too. They had a great team! Mychal Thompson was drafted ahead of Larry Bird in his draft -- wish we would have gotten his son to play here too!!

1976-1977 Gopher Basketball -- My favorite team

This was the first year I ever followed Gopher basketball and I really picked a great year! I eagerly awaited every game and listened to all the games on the radio with Ray Christensen announcing on WCCO. The Gophers finished 15-3 in the Big Ten and 24-3 overall and had an absolutely fantastic...

    6 years with Coach Fleck

Like you, I do not have a problem with Fleck's recruiting because you can tell from the results we are right there talent-wise, especially with Wisconsin and Iowa. We aren't getting blown out by teams just from talent alone like we used to do fairly regularly. I believe the playing field has...

Not too happy in Rutgersville about the OC hire....

Also -- think about this one. If he had offered Rossi 1.5M to be the DC we would have HAD to match it. Bottom line -- he overpayed and he hired the wrong one!!! LOL
