The NCAA has opened an investigation into No. 2 Michigan over possible rule-breaking around in-person scouting of opponents

It seems to me the following is all true with regard to meting out punishment: The rule that’s been broken (advanced in-person scouting) is in place for all sports, and the B1G needs to consider how they might handle a softball team (for example) doing the same thing in the future Violations...

    Buffs - Coach Prime

It seems unwise to tell a group you need for the rest of the season that you plan to replace them instead of trying to help them improve.

Agreed. The phrasing makes it unclear, but to me "path" sounds like a game prior to the playoff matchups.

That's gotta be Ohio State, right? "We may not win it all, but let's make sure the team down south doesn't either."

Itll happen. Wonder where the gophers end up?

This example is likely the biggest barrier to a 24-30 school separate league. Right now the helmet schools - regardless of who you include with that term - view themselves as equals and are able to fundraise as such. Good luck doing that when you finish 4-8 for three years running.

Jim was undone by South Carolina's win over Tennessee, he had their signals, but possibly not TCU's.

Is this already a succesful season?

Finishing the year 3-2 with a win over Wisconsin will make me very happy with the season, something I didn't think would be possible just two weeks ago.

Post Game Thread: Gophers With AMAZING Comeback Win!!!

Came here to say precisely this. Very easily could have gone 0-3 in the non conference that year and looked bad for long stretches of those games. Best team of my lifetime.

Iowa, Iowa State investigating athletes gambling

I don't think it should be now - far too much deregulation/legalization is happening too quickly - but I assume the NCAA will need to adopt a standard that schools will be expected to follow. As for enforcement, this wouldn't be the first time the NCAA has created a rule that would be applied...

Iowa, Iowa State investigating athletes gambling

In what year do we think player gambling will become a compliance expectation for athletic departments and coaches? Clearly no one thinks it should be now, our most bitter rival (it's a tie) is in the crosshairs and no one is suggesting sanctions for the program or coach.

Anonymous Players and Staff make unsubstantiated allegations

I agree with everyone else who feels the article lacks any sort of substance. Coyle has already made a statement: I think it would be beneficial for Coyle to offer up what sort of existing oversight exists for the program and/or to review the allegations about the drug tests. But it seems...

Tell me you don’t know about betting markets without telling me you don’t know about betting markets. If the books had known Mo was sitting, the lines would have moved by several points.

Yep. Imagine knowing Mo wasn't going to play against Purdue, for example.

How does 2024 recruiting finish up

Given it seems Mandell and Gilmore would be obvious takes, I'm most interested in how this class finishes in the event one or both commit elsewhere. If there is another position group we would seem likely to pursue it's WR. Beyond that, whether the staff fills the class and at what positions...

Official 2024 Gophers Football Recruiting Thread: Links, Tweets, Videos, Rumors

We are currently at 19 commits, with several high priority targets still on the board. Per @swelna's great scholarship tracker, we have just 13 players with expiring eligibility at the end of 2023. It is entirely possible that we will go into next offseason expecting at least 12 transfers or...

2023 College Basketball Transfer Portal Watch Thread

This is nonsense. We have no shot at him, but Love is a proven player that would waltz into our starting lineup -- his WS last year would have led our team. The idea that lesser players would leave because he comes here for (likely) only one year is silly and greatly overrates what the roster...

Obviously the appropriate response is close both schools and then reappropriate the state to MN, NE, MO, and IL. But more seriously, with NIL and the proliferation of sports gambling, athletic departments need 20+ person compliance staffs.
