    Gopher TOP dominance means little

Agree with OP. Opponents can't score during the dead time, but neither can the Gophers. It's all about shortening the game, limiting scoring and seeing who can play the most disciplined football. As a strategy, it makes sense at times when you have a strong line and running game versus a...

Shama on U WRs: That has to be considered a recruiting failure and it’s uncertain how the receiver roster gets fixed in the offseason.

I agree with your previous astute posts on Tanner's limitations in terms of receivers and progressions. But not sure why you are saying that the coaching staff has done a good job scheming around Tanner's talents. We've seen multiple games that this is just not the case. Sure, they finally...

    PJ Monday presser

I think this is pretty clearly the case. It's a pattern of constantly making excuses for the 5th year senior captain QB. Instead of expecting your QB to be the leader, to put things on his shoulders and pick up the mostly underclassmen receiving corps. Which I realize is easier said than done...

    The passing game!

This is all stated from the premise of expecting improvement out of the offense and adapting schemes to fit the situation. Which many/most of us can appreciate but at least according to what he says, PJ seems to be stuck in the mindset of 'limit mistakes, keep it close, and one of these times...

Chip: Will Fleck ever come to the realization that being ultraconservative isn't the recipe for success against quality teams?

Iowa seemed to go at him a lot and he was alone with no safety on several deep routes. He could have been better but how often do we have a true frosh CB starting that does even reasonably well under those conditions? My point is just that I think he got exposed a bit more Saturday, and Iowa...

    The passing game!

How so, and especially relative to the other receivers? There could be several, one of which might be that A&M had even better receivers and it might have taken Wright more than 2 years to crack the lineup. Which doesn't mean Wright isn't one of the better receivers in Dinkytown, or even that...

    The passing game!

That's a conveniently incomplete take. Prior to the 2021 season (Wright's first with us), the Gophers had helped two receivers get drafted in the 4th and 1st rounds in a two year span. They had a strong passing game in 2019, and the outcomes in 2020 could easily be viewed as a weird year. I...

    When do you bench Tanner?

Maybe, but there haven't been that many 50/50 balls to win. Between some combination of a heavy run-first philosophy, a general neglect of the passing game even when opportunity presents itself (comfortably leading against an inferior opponent), and Tanner's consistent inaccuracy leading to...

    Derek Burns thoughts

Wow. I feel dumber after reading this mush head's cliche-laced, verbal merry-go-round. Seems to have no actual understanding of the underlying causes of his offense's failure. "We need to execute" "You have to play smart football" "It was a case study of what can happen if you aren't...

    Derek Burns thoughts

Pragmatic? Not sure you actually understand what this word means, Mike Jr. I've wondered this same thing myself. I am starting to think it's mainly for show. Even when they line up early, they drag it out down to the limits of the playclock, sometimes even calling adjustments twice. Then...

    Settle down

You're not right about this so far.

    Settle down

As much on-paper QB talent as any time in the modern recruiting era. But do we have any coaches capable of transforming talented highschool players into Big10 passers?

You HAVE to fire the OC after this game

His press conference went something along the lines of "we didn't finish" (or ever really start, IMO) a few times, followed with some "we didn't execute", but mostly praised Illinois and their staff for playing well. He conceded that Tanner was "inconsistent" and that it would have been a...

Post Game Reaction Thread: Illini Beat Gophers

Uh, the defense gave up 14 points, right? Pretty sure that should win you the game. Don't forget that on the first score Illinois started at midfield thanks to a Morgan interception. The defense was great, all things considered. And assigning any blame to a crowd subjected to that clunker...

Post Game Reaction Thread: Illini Beat Gophers

Yes, it was just that single play or that certain injury that irrevocably damaged us for the rest of the dozens of plays in the game. Bad luck. Classic PR spin.

Post Game Reaction Thread: Illini Beat Gophers

Bowling Green was the low point, so this is just disappointing. PJ is going to give us some post-game spin, but I don't see how he cannot be aware that he needs to make changes with the offense and special teams. A well-coached team wins this game against Illinois. With ease.
