Amen to that. She's been a real trooper. Last year I saw her warming up a pitcher by catching pitches with her glove and rolling the ball back to the pitcher with (what I assume was) an injured throwing hand. Chavez performed the heroics for sure; Bradley was the unsung hero using her speed to...

In the NDSU game, Burnett got a bloop hit that she stretched into a triple, only to be sent back to second. Anybody know why?

After watching the disappointing SDSU game, I promised myself to leave off commenting here about Gophers' games. I'll keep watching and attending games, but it hasn't been the same for about 3 years. What happens, or more accurately doesn't happen, on the field and why is a mystery to me.

Doesn't sound like much of a comfort level with Hambrick (sp?) either, jerking her after 3 or less innings? 20 games into the season and still only one reliable pitcher? I'm sorry for sounding so down, but last night's game left an extremely lackluster impression, from team and HC. Lucky Pease...

If deveoping a deep pitching staff is the aim, why put Pease in? If she can't pitch every game, why insert her in this one? Why not let Schwartz or Enter finish it? And why go all the way to San Diego to play a game half-heartedly, which is how I interpreted the effort watching the stream.

Incredibly listless performance by everybody. Why did the team even bother to show up? And why didn't Piper just start the game with Pease to begin with and let her win the game 1-0, which she surely would have done.

True, doesn't matter. Maybe is more of a jinx anyway. Oakland won a weekly award and then went hitless 3 straight games, as I recall, or something like that.

Yes, it's tough, but it can be done, and it's the key to an elite status in DI. Gophers have had Moulton, Groenewegen, Fiser, and now maybe Pease (though she wasn't out of high school). Time for more. I know I'm greedy, but why not us, too? Recruiting's a skill.

Did Pease get any national attention for pitching 25 innings and winning 3 complete games over the weekend?

It was nice to see Elhke get some hits. A productive lefthanded power bat near the bottom would be great.

I've only "seen" the Gophers play on stats. They seem far more talented than their 11-8 record. Yes, they're a young team, but freshmen have often been the leaders while others who've been around for 2-4 years haven't taken the lead (maybe they're not talented enough to do so?). Early on it...

For those of you watching the Gophers' game on TV or in person, what's up with our other 3 pitchers? What do you see? Are they regressing? Pease's poise and success are fantastic to observe even on Live Stats, but she can't be expected to pitch every inning of every game. Yet our chances of...

Sorry I misspelled DenHartog's name. Yes, a very exciting game. I only followed on tracking, and it felt exciting. Can't praise Pease and Chavez (5 RBIs) enough. Really courageous by Pease w/ CSF having last at bats.

I guess I eat crow for my comments on SenHartog. She came through with a huge clutch double and even more indicative of her value to the team she beat out an 11th-inning bunt that must have set Fullerton back on their heels. Chavez's big homer came right after that bunt.

There are voices critiquing Strelow's hitting, but it's common for a nr. 9 batter not to hit much. More noticeable is the lack of hitting from the leadoff spot and Den Hartog. It seems forever since DenHartog got a base hit and even longer since she got a big hit. Today was another weak...

In the previous discussion about trying someone else at 2nd base, Leschber's name was mentioned as a possibility at second. I was replying to that.

Would have been great to see today's game v. Oregon. The offense came from the bottom of the order, and they're fresh[wo]men to boot. This time v. a ranked team the Gophers took charge and played from ahead, not catchup. What's up with DenHartog not hitting?

Leshber is left-handed; so she won't play second base.

It appears that Rutgers [!!!] is the only BIG team with a really good W-L percentage. No idea who their opponents have been; no time to look it up. The Gophers need to stay above .500 this weekend at least.
