The Very Big Question That The Big Ten Still Hasn't Answered For 2024

To me, Iowa and PSU have the weakest schedules. I don't think a one Loss team who only plays one upper level team should count more than a two-loss team with a more difficult schedule. I hope they develop a formula that takes that into account.

That 8-4 record with the wins an losses against the same teams is how I see it as well. 8

All Things 2024-25 Vikings Regular Season Thread

JJM is still young, 21 years old. Even Tom Brady says a major reason for his success was having a year to play behind and learn from a seasoned veteran .

Ranking Big Ten football coaches heading into 2024

I agree. There's too little info for some of these new coaches to place them, especially that high.

Matt Ruhle said the loud stadiums at Minnesota and Colorado to start last season basically took him a bit by surprise.

I remember a late October 2012 game where the Nebraska crowd was very loud. Denard Robinson got injured at the end of the first half and was Michigan's only offense that game. (He was often a dominating force. A few years earlier, his passing and running yardage against ND was just over 500...

Your Favorite Quirks About College Football

I like some that have already been mentioned: bands, fan rivalries and chants. Unfortunately , due to realignment some of those rivalries and chants are disappearing and have been already for a long time Another feature I really enjoy is becoming less common because of new transfer rules: the...

What Big Ten’s Bill Carollo would do same, differently on infamous invalid fair catch call in Iowa-Minnesota game

I'm neither an Iowa nor a Minnesota fan so have no dog in this fight. But to me, it's a player safety issue. If the defender racing down the field has to decide in a split second whether the receiver waving his arm around is above the shoulder or not, the advice moving forward would always be...

UCLA coach DeShaun Foster with a really awkward Big Ten media day opening statement (video)

I felt bad for the guy. But, if he can recruit and win, I doubt too many UCLA fans will complain. That, though, remains to be seen, and his hire seemed to be a huge stretch anyway, to go from position coach to head coach.

    All things funny

Several years ago we had some visiting professors at the house for dinner. Our kids aged about 7, 6. and 4 were at the dinner table. One of the professors asked each kid what she wanted to be when grown up. He started with the oldest When he got to the youngest I could see she was struggling...

NCAA Tournament to include two new metrics beginning in 2025; committee delays decision on expansion

I wish they went back to more heavily weighing late season wins. I understand the rationale of treating all games the same, whether they're in December or late February/March. A lot of young teams, or now teams with a bunch of transfers are much different and better teams by the end of the...

Mike Gundy seemingly admitting to driving under the influence "a thousand times in my life" in defense of star player's DUI arrest.

Wasn't the alcohol level higher in the past to be considered over the limit? I also wouldn't be surprised if Gundy has lawyers telling him they can get the charges tossed. Breathalyzer tests are notorious for faulty readings, varying by 20% or more. Get a lawyer to start asking when the testing...

CBS: Big Ten football rivalry rankings: #2. MN vs. wi; #3. MN vs Iowa ; #11. MN vs. MI; #13. MN vs NE; #21. MN vs PSU

For nostalgic reasons, I would like to see the Little Brown Jug game higher on the list, but with conference expansion there's no real point.

    B1G Recruiting past 5 Years

This list helps explain why James Franklin gets called overrated. During this time he is 0-4 against OSU and 1-3 against Michigan. OTO, it shows that Fleck was doing more with less. But then again, recruiting is part of a coach's job.

2024 Strength of Schedule For All 134 FBS College Football Teams (41. Minnesota Golden Gophers)

I wondered why so many prognosticators were high on Rutgers and Nebraska for the upcoming season. It seems strength of schedule must be part of the reason.

Ohio State football Buck'Eyeing' the Big Ten: Minnesota Golden Gophers

I don't see any reason Minnesota can't win 2 of four of the Iowa, Michigan, USC, UCLA games the author thinks is such a daunting task. If the Gophers do go 2-2 ,(,,or better) in that stretch, I just hope Michigan isn't one of the losing teams.

STrib: University of Minnesota could add cocktails, bottle service into the mix at stadiums

I would be surprised if some of those suites didn't already have full bars. Probably not supplied by the university, but it would only make sense to allow the big spenders to bring in their own bartenders and supplies.

The Big 10/18: How Will It Shake Out?

Michigan also has a new coaching staff with a HC who has been successful and has received a lot of positive press buzz the last two years as well as an assistant coach who is a great recruiter: Mike Boynton, Jr. Boynton is the former Oklahoma State head coach who recruited such players as Cade...
