It starts higher up, doesn't it? If the Univ. President wants a strong athletic dept., you'll likely get it.

I think at this level, if a player is going to produce big, they'll do it from the start as freshmen, like Groenewegen/Macken/denHartog in the past & Chavez/Oakland now. If they're still trying to fimd and develop their games as upperclassmen, it's probably too late. As one highly successful...

This is an effective way to lose a loyal fan base. Get a 4-run lead halfway through the game, then give up 7 runs in about 5 minutes? This is not D1 pitching. Hard to say which is worse, 2022 or 2024. This weekend the Gophers offense supported the circle by scoring 27 runs in 3 games, but the...

With a good ace starting pitcher, the Gophers would've won game1 also --- and handily. They won't get back to a power standing in the Big Ten without top starting pitching.

Noticeably her addition to the team was hyped a bit as the season began, but she disappeared without a word apparently. Seems fans would be worthy of some explanation, no matter how bland.

Inconsistency in the entire battery. In the circle Schwartz out (with an injury? has it ever been described?); other pitchers not throwing strikes; only Enter able to get outs consistently. None of this helped by Krapf not able to catch every game; and freshman Wolocko only used for...

Enter had the MSU game closed out perfectly well. She produced ground balls, her specialty. Then the infield error spelled doom. The old axiom held; don't give the opponent 4 outs in an inning. (I hate to seem to place blame on the player who made the crucial error because she's carried the...

Surely we all feel crushed by these recent results, but if MN wants to win at this D1 level they gotta have top-tier DI talent, at bat & in the circle. Only about 4 Gopher players are performing at that level. The whole program's gotta step up or the slide will continue.

    I have the same question.

The usual problem. The last five batters in the lineup unproductive. You can't expect to beat top teams with only three hitters, Oakland, Chavez, & Krapf. You need hitters who can hit their way on base and drive in runs up and down the lineup. This is an ongoing problem since 2020.

    Gopher Softball 2024

It appears this weekend is pretty crucial for showing how the Gophers have progressed, esp. in the circle. They face two ranked teams and a pair of Big Ten opponents. Sadly, the games are mainly featured only on Stats

    Women's Hockey 2023-24 Season - Part 3: Playoffs

Minnesota seems to have fallen behind the likes of WI and OSU in both mens' and womens' hockey in recent years. As a fan without a close knowledge of hockey, I wonder why that is. Any explanations?

Back in the Stone Age of my childhood, I listened to Mutual Radio's MLB game broadcasts. An announcer read off game reports from a ticker tape with a few embellishments. It was primitive, but better than nothing. Present-day Stats is also better than nothing, but you'd think modern tech could...

Why do the box scores refer to her as Valenica?

    Gopher Softball 2024

Bad weather forecast today altered scheduling. Did Mercer get sent home? Or did they opt out? The Gopher win seemed work[wo]manlike enough, the kind of games past Gophers' teams in the past would lose to teams they should beat. I kept expecting Oakland or Krapf to open it up with a long blast...

Valencia has also shown some life with the bat lately. As a freshman, she looked like a potential star. Maybe she'll bloom as a hitter the rest of the schedule? (The box score listed her as a freshman, so 4 more years? (Just joking.)

    Gopher Softball 2024

If the pitching continues to improve and if reawakened power hitting arrives from Krapf and Ehlke, the Gophers could win a lot of games from here on. These are ifs; it'd be interesting to hear other fans' assessments.

I felt the same after seeing her pitch in Fall ball, but she got no support from her hitters. Batters 5-8 are producing next to nothing even when ahead in the count, which is when pitches need to be driven into the outfield.
