What 5 schools would USC football kick out of the Big Ten, if given the option? (#3. Minnesota)

“we’re speculating the five teams the Trojans would boot from the conference if given the choice.” The question is “WHY?” Silly waste of time click bait question I guess, since this will never happen.

Ezra: An Insane Number of Schools Tried to Lure Mike Mitchell Jr. Out of Dinkytown with Big NIL Offers

Another possibility is that these “representatives” are just casting a wide net, hoping to snag some interest from players like Mitchell. Then they sift through the handful of players who showed interest and make an actual pitch to their top guy.

Reusse on Fleck's stability at the U: "it would take 3 seasons in row of 5-7 or less to face the “heat” associated w/ getting fired."

Is there anything more predictable than Reusse complaining about the U of M coaches? Other than his monthly columns about town baseball and being an ink stained wretch from Fulda? So Fleck as head coach accepts responsibility for losses and says the coaches need to do better. OR Fleck can throw...

All Things Class of 2025 Gophers Basketball Recruiting Thread

I could be wrong, but to play in the CFP I think an athlete still must be registered for classes. Whether they attend classes is another matter.

All Things Class of 2025 Gophers Basketball Recruiting Thread

Players must also remain enrolled full time throughout the semester, though nothing prevents them from ignoring assignments and not going to class. But at the end of the term they would be ineligible. Athletes would have to enroll for both fall and spring semesters for sports that overlap. But...

All Things Class of 2025 Gophers Basketball Recruiting Thread

The tampering, which used to be illegal, will be done by someone from their NIL collective not directly employed by the university. Hanger on Collective guy: “In case you decide to put your name in the transfer portal there is a possibility there could be a $100 K payoff from (Kentucky, Kansas...

STrib: Gophers chase their NIL version of FedEx's $25 million gift to Memphis

The first arms race in college sports was about facilities. Now it’s about how much the athletes get paid. The bigger the NIL the better the players. The rich get richer.

    Gopher Potential Portal Pursuits

And just like other aspects of life, there is always someone who is better or who works harder who wants to take your job. So you better keep improving at what you do.

    Gopher Potential Portal Pursuits

This goes back a ways. Archie Clark got better each year: 11.1 ppl to 14.3 ppl to 24.5 ppl as a senior. Jim Petersen averaged 1.2 ppl as a freshman to 11.2 ppl and 6.9 rebounds, a solid senior year that got him drafted in the 3rd round. Clark became an excellent NBA player, and Petersen...

    Gopher Potential Portal Pursuits

If they become contributing rotation players that is OK too. If they can’t play at this level they need to move on to some where they can play, unless their degree is more important and they manage to keep their scholarship.

Betts was a high school senior in year one and the maturity of a freshman this past year. So before you discard him as let’s see how this year goes and see if he can help.

Brian Kelly speaks out against buying players.

Revenue sharing (AKA socialism) is the same concept used by the NFL to keep a competitive balance. Without that the NY, LA and Dallas markets would own the league and fans elsewhere would lose interest, costing the teams revenue. MLB is in the dark ages on this concept, except for the amateur draft.

    Academics Question

That’s a nice thought that I don’t think is accurate. I believe in the notion of the student athlete and really appreciate those who take their studies seriously. But a basketball player who is less committed to the classroom than to basketball doesn’t make that player a poor or unprepared teammate.

Cam Christie is entering the Transfer Portal

Pretty disappointing to read the juvenile comments posted here. People can’t even be classy towards each other when they are fans of the same team, but just have different opinions. It’s just a small example of the problem we have nationally.

    Disillusionment

I feel your pain as a Gopher basketball fan since 1960. Very discouraging!

Seriously How Can The Gophers Compete???

The NIL money talks or the players walk. Any team, not just the Gophers, that can't get competitive in NIL has no chance. The highest bidder wins almost every time. So the rich will get richer, and for everyone else it’s the Hunger Games.

    Femi Odukale commits

Totally unnecessary snarky and sarcastic response that doesn’t add anything to the conversation.
