2023 College Basketball Transfer Portal Watch Thread

If there were an award for being overly active on Gopherhole while providing absolutely zero value to the community, Spaulding would be the undisputed champ. As active as he is on this board while maintaining 100% irrelevancy at all times is almost a skill. I keep thinking he's going to slip...

Thanks for compiling, CJB. I'm surprised NM is losing seven players after a 20-win season.

It seems we are in the fold on many rotational/reserve-type guys. I hope that changes fast.

I imagine in Ben's mind Carrington/Christie are already filling the role of the "up-and-coming SG prospects." I'd even throw Ihnen in that group if Ben was serious about him starting at the #2. At this point, he has to be going after experienced guards who have proven something at the D1 level.

Jamison Battle to enter the Transfer Portal

Agree; Jamison Battle playing 25-28 minutes per game as the 3rd/4th scoring option is the ideal situation for his skillset IMHO. Bonus points if he's matched up against PFs.

Wonder if Jayden Pierre will hit the portal with Cooley leaving Providence. We were close to landing him! I'd guess Georgetown would likely be the favorite for his services. He played about 11 minutes a game but had pretty solid stats: 2.7x A/To 54% from 3-pt (low volume) If we were halfway...

I would take an Izzo-coached PG, who already contributes sparingly, on a sweet 16 squad, who plays behind Walker and Akins. That's another massive building block in a position of need.

What grade would you give the Gophers 2022-23 basketball season?

I like the future potential of our young players, but that, unfortunately, shouldn't have any bearing on the grade for this season. The record, the KenPom metrics, and multiple 20+ point losses make it an iron-clad "F." That doesn't mean I'm not very intrigued and hopeful for Year 3!

Because skilled 6'8" guards with a handle, slashing ability, and a pure jump shot grow on trees, duh.

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA VS NEBRASKA BTT WIN OR SEASON'S OVER IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Maybe it’s been mentioned, but how about Payne shutting down Walker in the second half!? I thought Walker was going to score 30 points after the first few minutes. He may not have scored in the second half.

Probably should have been pulled for a couple minutes after his 3rd for a quick breather.

Did anybody else catch that “birthday lap dance” comment in the first half? Had me rolling. You could tell Hummel was uncomfortable. 😂

What would better free throw shooting get us?

Interesting analysis, and thanks for taking the time to do it! As others have pointed out, it is a bit of a wormhole when you start to ponder how the games would have played out in a tie game vs. one possession, or one possession vs. two possession, etc. I think the effect of missed free...

Mark Coyle in response to is Gophers Men's basketball HC Ben Johnson's job safe (Video)

I don't mind Coyle's comments. I've been a vocal CBJ supporter and can still conclude that this season was unacceptable and can't happen again. I always said three years is a reasonable time frame to prove it. While losing the Evans scholarship strings in the long run and w/ perception, that...

***OFFICIAL RUTGERS AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

You're spot on. And ironically, as I watched this game leading up to the last few minutes, I felt like Rutgers was blatantly lucky. Even the announcers commented that everything was seemingly going Rutger's way with bounces, luck, and momentum. I'm thrilled the boys got to feel that elation...
